A BMW 1 Series coupe pulled next to me on the way home on the R27. Lights turn green, guy revs his engine and speeds away. Car behind him follows suit at high speed and suddenly blue lights all over.

Arsehole got nailed. Nice to see. :)

Nailed for what ? Don't think there is a rule about revving and accelerating .... So unless his wheels spun or he eventually exceeded the speed limit .... doubt that reckless driving will stick at low speed even if he accelerated heavily.

I'm sure it hit higher speeds than the limit (why else do people go on about 0 to whatever in 5 seconds) quickly enough and that's when the lights came on...

Speeding. Cop car was a few cars behind and then followed pursuit.

In hindsight, this may not have been the smartest thing to do given the propensity for road-rage by some elements, but I just cannot stand the litter culture in South Africa. If you lack the ability to process thought past the point of “who is going to pick that up?” I really don’t have time for you.

What you won’t see given the angle of the dash-cam is the driver taunting me, shortly after I returned his rubbish, by holding the packet out the window again and laughing. He eventually gave up and kept his trash to himself.

Vehicle registration: CA607142

Lol, you're very brave. Would have been more epic if it was something messy/liquid. That's some good quality footage right there, not your typical VGA compressed down to 5 blurry spots.

Huh?

Someone speeds past a cop car and cop car gives pursuit. Nothing illegal about that.

I asked if it was legal to issue a speeding ticket based on a speed reading obtained from a moving car, because as far as I know it's not - it certainly never used to be. There are very specific rules around speed traps, and one of them always used to be that the radar, laser or whatever needs to be stationary. Of course, it's possible that this has changed, so I asked.

You said the guy was pulled over for speeding. I'm saying that, unless the law has changed, that's not possible in the situation that you described. The cop could possibly get him for reckless driving, but not speeding.

Is speed trapping from a moving car legal in this country these days? It never used to be...

I don't think it is, not yet at least...

I don't think any of our cop cars are fitted with that sort of equipment.

Or he got a talking to and a warning.

If the cop followed him and pulled him over for that then I would assume he got done for reckless driving not speeding.

Also nothing stopping him from going through the motions of license, drivers and a quick roadworthy check. All have potential for a ticket and of course achieves the goal of wasting time.

Certainly not my usual approach, but I was really fed up with this morons behavior.

Footage taken with a mini 0806.

He deserves a Bells on us - not many would do the same.

Can I have a laphroaig instead?

This Video Switches over to the Front Facing Dash Cam @ 1:18

1. Noticed this car driving dangerously close to me. 6:45am, rush hour traffic. Woodlands Drive, Johannesburg.

2. Noticed a kid in the car. I couldn't see if it was a toddler in a child seat sitting in the back, or if the kid was standing in the car. You can notice the kid's head in the middle.

3. Dangerously overtaking. Almost causing a head on collision. Shame on you DT48SP GP! :RedNo:
