Bad Driving thread

Randomly started watching DashCamOwnerAus on Youtube recently, and they generally have the right idea when it comes to people trying to be pushy, almost nobody lets them in....

They do have some monumentally retarded drivers on their roads as well, but obviously nowhere near the level we do.

I watch it quite often as well, some of it is entertaining, some frustrating and some frightening.

Anybody watching Fury Road on YT?

I'm subscribed to a couple - Bad drivers UK, UK Dashcam, Dashcam Europe, DDS TV, Moto Madness...

watching and learning from others mistakes is good.
This reminds me, wonder why I didn't move forward when the lady ran into my behind on Friday because I saw it coming at least 5 seconds before but just stared in the mirror.

Maybe because there was not enough space between you and the vehicle in front of you? Or you were at an intersection?
 :D

Siting in traffic, but I distinctly remember having no thoughts whatsoever, just glanced in my mirror noticed she wasn't looking whilst not slowing down enough, then again it was instantly obvious that it would be very very minor so perhaps that is why the lack of reaction on my part, although the round of applause was instant.

AT least I know who will suffer when they ride into the back of me. That nice tow hitch and spare tyre bumper will cause plenty of damage and leave me with a few scratches at worst.

Oh yes, that's why I insist on my cars havening a tow bar. It do minimize damage from low to medium speed impacts, but high speed impacts it won't be that useful.

I have never understood how having something that translates crash impact energy straight to your chassis is better than taking a hit on the bumper?

In a way you're correct, but what I'm talking about is low to medium impacts.

Bumpers are soft plastic, and at speeds below 40km/h the bumper will have a nice towbar-sized lump in it, but your car won't have any damage.

At higher speeds you may get a bit of damage (broken bumper etc) but still better than what you would get without a tow bar.

But yeah, YMMV with towbars though.

I'll admit I have never done much research in to it or have much experience from it either but taking damage almost directly to a vehicles chassis doesn't sound like a great idea to me. Perhaps someone has seen a report or study on this?

Talking of the low impact bumps in traffic. Yes, obviously a high-speed impact will cause more damage.
And besides, I should have said I have a rather intimidating 4 x 4, not a normal car. It has a real chassis designed to take the strain.

Men who are jerks and who break traffic laws prefer high-status cars, study says - Autoblog

If you drive an expensive luxury car, this might make you squirm: A new study out of Finland finds not only that drivers of expensive cars are more likely to break traffic laws, but they’re more likely to be self-absorbed jerks — and overwhelmingly male.

“The answers were unambiguous: self-centered men who are argumentative, stubborn, disagreeable and unempathetic are much more likely to own a high-status car such as an Audi, BMW or Mercedes,” the researchers at the University of Helsinki wrote in a press release.

To put a finer point on it, the study was published in the Journal of International Psychology under a surprisingly unscientific headline for an academic journal:

“Not only assholes drive Mercedes.”

Social psychology professor Jan-Erik Lönnqvist said he had long noticed that people who drove fast German cars were most likely to be the ones who ran red lights, failed to give way to pedestrians and generally drove too fast.

Previous research has shown that drivers of expensive cars were more likely to break traffic laws, but he wondered whether it was the car that made them aggressive, or whether certain types of people were drawn to them.

What is it that you drive?

A 198 kW, 385 nm pre-historic sardine can with upgraded suspension, 80 mm lift and full engine and gearbox protector plates. 2007.

Uncannily similar to these ones now available as standard. see this thread. I must have been a time traveller to get those mods done in 2007 already.

I always like the Navara's but only ever drove one with the 2.5 TDi engine in it.

Is it just me or is there a rapid increase (these past few months) in people driving straight in turn only lane and yellow lane areas/emergency area at robots. Its no longer just taxi's doing this stuff either :/

Feels like more and more people don't care about road rules/laws...

No, not just you. I think more and more people are saying: "if the taxis can do it so can I".
