Ok. I like Kitkat. And I like the Google Android. And barring worrying ramifications of the embedded marketing concept these guys are running here - I decided to enter their competition after buying a ... Kitkat.

And bad Google! Go to your server room. The wrapper does not give you much details about the competition, forcing you to go to www.kitkat.co.za (Ooh. I see what they are trying to do there).

But then you have to sms the last 4 digits of the barcode to *120*548528# to enter.
Except that does not work - further reading of the terms and conditions (Yes. A IT company forcing you to read the ToC! :wtf:) - shows that it is actually *120*548528*last 4 digits of barcode# to enter.

Oops.

And yes. I did not win.

The biggest question is why buy a KitKat in the first place? The barcodes are all the same anyway so anyone can enter without buying a KitKat... Kinda dumb.

Well no, they can get unique barcodes from here https://www.gs1za.org/ that will tell them where the chocolate was bought if their logistic systems are up to the job.

Same batches, they will probably be broken up into regions/stores etc.

Doesn't make sense, how will they control how many people enter? 500 per store?

1 person enters 500 times and spoils the rest of the chances for that store?

These competitions usually have a sticker inside the packet with the code that you SMS. Had a Mint Kit-Kat earlier but can't remember if that was the case here or not.

No.

You must enter the last 4 digits of the barcode. It's not like the Bar One win airtime competitions.

Oh look, I just entered again from the KitKat I bought a couple of days ago, 3rd time now.

Well That's silly. You don't even need to buy a Kit-Kat to enter then.

Trust Android to be so open and have such security flaws, this wouldn't have happened had it been an Apple competition, but then the Kit-Kat would have cost R90 and you'd have to install some software before you could eat it.

I don't think it's about the number of entrants but from where the entrants are buying. USSD codes pass location data don't they?

Haha Earth to Abzo, that was established in post 5 already :p

Know how some people just pretend to be listening when they're actually just waiting for their turn to talk? That's me on this forum. :p

I don't think you quite get it.

Tell me how they differentiate between me entering 50 times with one KitKat or 50 times with 50 KitKats.

USSD can record the mobile number too but I see what you mean. What happens when you try enter twice?

Even if it can it's irrelevant, 1 entry or 10 entries each will be the same barcode, whether I've actually bought 1 or 10 KitKats.

As for entering it multiples times it just says you didn't win.
