BAD Openweb Service!

Could I ask you what is the criteria to be tagged as a downloader?

I'd like to know the same thing, as i browse a lot and have a suspicion that my account is being throttled:(

EDIT: i emailed [email protected] this morning to get a resolution as to why my openbrowse speeds are so slow, but havent had a reply yet..i don't mean to sound arrogant, but it sounds like a few other people are experiencing this, so i doubt its anything on my pc thats causing it to run so slowly.

Think of it this way, you think all customers are idiots before they even start talking because you work with so many idiots on a daily basis. So you'll treat everyone like an idiot even if they aren't.

correct! all customers are IDIOTS. If they are not then they would be the suppliers. Deal with it!

That is the reason why we South Africans enjoy such GREAT service.
And yes I also deal with customers on a daily basis, I can't see how you guys find it so hard. I have never really had any problems my customers! Just be sincere... do I need to give you some guides?

You see, thats the problem with customers. They become very arrogant and adopt a "i want it now" attitude, give the supplier a break and let them sort out your issue. Why cant customers just understand that the supplier or sales person is human and is not capable of obeying every command given to him/her in 1 second. Follow through takes time and time means correct results. I hope u and i never cross paths!

I hope me and you never cross paths  , as you have some vital social skills to learn. The customer is always right, that is true business ethic Id say...especially in the case of being a service provider. An ISP's staff should be trained to adapt to a customers needs. Even if they are ignorant, arrogant or intimidating.

There are ways around an angry customer. As bullfrog said, be sincere. It helps calm the situation down...

What a coincidence. I for some reason I can't log into the openrouter service and I get an error message saying that the username or password is invalid. Coincidently I have downgraded my account to one without openrouter and now I am getting this same error.

MrBeep: Could you please sort this out for me as I still need it till the end of the month. I will probably be contacting you first thing tommorrow over msn so be ready :p

I kinda feel your pain on this one. My international went completely dead for no apparent reason (I'm using openBrowse as well) - at about one this morning. Sent them an email since I need internet connectivity to finish a website that I have to upload for a client this morning.

It's now 4:37 - still dead. I'm fooked...
:(

*edit* 5:44 - and there's life. Awesome, just...awesome.

"Downloaders" will be clients who are downloading large file of unknown file extensions (eg. an 80MB .adsf file). It doesn't happen very often and it usually shows up on our systems and we terminate your account.

The problem is, in situations like early this morning, if clients leave downloads on overnight on the OpenBrowse servers, the pipe soon gets saturated and then some users will experience low speeds.

Currently we are expanding the server network to provide better redundancy and are weeding out clients who abuse the service for downloading.

Regards,

Just thought I would pop in to say that WebAfrica is GREAT. Got my account in less than 2minutes and it's a HELL of a lot better than IS. Kinda feels like I'm on ADSL again, versus slower than dailup service I had.

I am never moving away from Web-Africa that is for damn sure! :D

yeah just start another thread about how wonderful WA is. Don't bash one company which has offered very good customer service to their clients and advertise how well the other in the same thread. It's pretty stupid how u handling this. One customer has a bad experience once with his ISP and he goes to the end of the world and bashes them.

Grow up.

Ok so apparently there was some problem and some passwords were corrupted on the openrouter server, it started around abot 22:00 last night. MrBeep quickly fixed it for me by resetting my password and all is well again. So if you have any issues just email them at [email protected]. :)

In all Fairness Gnome had a problem and was unhappy enough to voice it troubles here. The problem was picked up and fixed, but for Gnome damage was done and he moved on, and seems happier now.

Whether or not his problem was reasonable it was enough to make him move ISP, I really dont think you should be bashing him for complaining, even good providers need to be given a nudge every now and then.

Thanks for the reply Equinox. It's good to know you guys are upgrading your network.. There is one thing i was wondering about though..In the other thread MrBeep said that Openweb had many servers with loads of excess bandwidth, and that they were nowhere near capacity..So why is it that if one person is downloading, everyone else gets a degraded performance? Surely everyone has x amount of speed that they can't exceed, so why does it get saturated?

What service does Web Africa use?

I see you are pointing out Web Africa vs IS... do you mean SAIX vs IS?
Your original problem had little to do with IS - it was a glitch on the openrouter AFAIK.
Are you now on a SAIX account and basically saying that SAIX is better than IS?

When we do our bandwidth budgets for OpenBrowse, we do not take downloading into consideration, as in theory, this is not suppose to happen on the network.

Thus, having a large amount of browsing bandwidth available, doesnt mean we have a large amount of download bandwidth available.

The upgrades taking place will allow regular browsing users to have a good experience whilst abusers download.

Abusers: Seen to the fact that OpenBrowse is a browsing only service, anybody downloading with the service, are considered abusers, and will be weeded out of the network.

I hope this explains it better.
