Bad or dead connections

10KB/s !!!!

Waiting for Neotel to reply back with info on cancelling.
I'm so sick of this!

It works 1 week, the next it doesn't. It's up and down.
Yet, Neotel expect you to pay every month like clock work.

I wish their billing worked like their service, they would never get their payments!

I waited in vain for cancellation info so I just emailed them and faxed them on 3 numbers until they got my cancellation in writing. The can't stop you from cancelling so just fax them and confirm they got your fax and you have cancelled. What they say doesn't matter

I've tossed Neotel rep a PM wanting information on cancelling.

I used to use Neotel, but after it not working at all for the first 4 days, i cancelled and went with another company that was selling screamer connections. i have a 5GB 512K line, and am getting 520K down and 340K up. excelent latencies on gaming servers. currently playing Borderlands and CS. have never looked back!

Woke up this morning to my connection doing weird things.

Connected, going at 30KB/s, then it dies, (0KB/s) for about a minute, then shooots up to 90KB/s then shoots down to 30KB/s and then dies, same story, graph looked so weird.

i'm also only getting 1kB/s this is ridiculous.

I am much luckier than you. I am getting upto 3kbytes/s peaks !!!

This morning I logged on to see that I am thrown off EvDO. The router is now connected to 1xRTT and there seems nothing I can do about it. I am now running at the same speeds I can expect from my Lite phone, but paying 9 times more.

The strange thing is that my EvDO signal is between 20 to 30 dBm better than the RTT ...so iemand hy het hom daai deng weer gebreek.....

Just to top op this wonderful NoTel day, a lady called from NoTel. I immediately started to bitch and moan and asked her if she is calling about my site visit, promised 3 weeks ago. No, she is from accounts. There seems to be a problem with my debit order and I am behind on my payments.

Now check this. I actually pay (or am seriously capable of paying) and get very little service. I call and get NO real response. They call and I have to jump with money. If need be I can EFT them the funds no problem, but I think Standard bank will timeout at the moment.

This afternoon I will have to get a SIM card and airtime for my 3G card. I cannot go on like this. Even my wife came in a few minutes ago and said that we should cut our losses, pay the damn penalties and give this crap back (or basically just cancel). NoTel is not in the mood to improve the service, they just want the money.

Oh, and a last thing. Since yesterday's NoTel weekly shutdown the strangest thing is happening. As soon as there is no activity for a while (around 3 to 5 minutes) and the software says "Connected (Dormant)" the connection is cut. Now poor Windoze gets completely confused in modem mode (which I need to do in order to monitor the data counter) and when I try to reconnect it says that another adaptor is busy. This requires me to sometimes reboot, which is very irritating especially when I am busy designing a circuit and I have 10 windows open.

What I want NoTel to understand is that their system is NOT like Telkom ADSL or Vodacom 3G. With NoTel you need to sit and watch the damn thing, move the modem around, tweak the antenna, so basically babysit the system. The next issue is that the system has different problems every few days. Then I have bad speed with the built-in antenna, then I need a yagi, then the system is off for several hours, then the SMTP server is down, the the speed is erratic, dropping to nothing and then disconnections on a regular basis. With Vodacom 3G I had problems, but then it started to improve and kept on improving. With NoTel it just gets worse. But I think the biggest problem is the service personnel. Most of the call centre people cannot properly speak or understand English, they basically repeat your problems back to you without proper explanation and they never, ever call back. You get that feeling that you are alone. I feel like a sucker for signing that contract. People warned me and I did read the forum and I still signed.

The only things I haven't done yet was to complain on HelloPeter and GetClosure. So far I have made numerous calls, have an outstanding ref number on which they must still call me back, I have PM-ed Neotel rep (no response), did everything in my power to improve signal quality and strength and so far no luck, just worse performance every single day (with bursts of happiness here and there). The next step would be to cancel the contract, pay the penalties BUT I first want to go and physically go and say hi to one of my friends at ICASA and discuss this issue with him. Maybe if my problem is explained from the heart I will not only help myself but numerous others with the same problems.

For me to send this post I now need to reconnect. It will probably not work so I am saving this text in a file, doing a complete restart, waiting several minutes for this page to reload and then attempt to post.

When you decide to go, let me know and I will join you.

I first need to get his number again. When they robbed us in our house in September the buggers took everything including my cell numbers. But Gary, you are welcome.
