Bad Parking Pictures

I would fight it if I were you. The cops have a discretionary allowance and she should have used it. I think you will find the CT authorities will be quite sympathetic to your case. The long term solution is to get a disabled parking permit for your mom registered in her name. Actually quite easy in the Cape. My Mom has one and we always use it when taking her anywhere.
 
So I spent 5 weeks in CT over the holidays and I have drawn some conclusions about you lot regarding this pre-occupation for vigilantism with specific reference to "bad parking".

One of the issues you have generally is that in many places in the Brackenfell area, the parking bays and the aisle widths available for turning into a parking bay do not comply with regulations, making it quite difficult for anyone to park properly without having to reverse back and forth.

The minimum stall width is supposed to 2.5 m and the length 5. 0m. I found bays as narrow as 2.2 m and the length 4.2m with the aisle widths down to 6.0 m.


Now anyone with a relatively large SUV or a bakkie as I have battles to get into one of those bays and then my bakkie sticks out at the back by almost 1 metre! So what is better? Sticking out into an already inadequate aisle or encroaching a little bit on the bay in front of you or over the pavement?

There have been moves made to try and get the dimensions increased in size to cater for the increase in larger vehicles but as far as I know nothing has transpired yet. The new recommended dimensions for a parking bay are 5.48 m long and 2.77m wide. Taking that into account it may be a very good idea for you lot to go and get the authorities in your area to start adhering to the existing dimensions at least.

Many shopping centres build their parking areas to their own standards which do not comply with the existing regulations. The minimum dimensions I found in the Brackenfell area were: Length: 2.2m and width 4.2m with aisle widths of 6.0 m.

Makes you think does it not?

With an average turning circle for most larger vehicles being about 12 m, the current aisle dimensions are already barely adequate. So any parking area that does not adhere to that standard is just looking for and encouraging bad parking habits.

These regs you mentioned does it say private property has to adhere to it?

Try to park in NY, London, Paris or Madrid.

You park between two cars whichever is the space, even if you have to push them a bit and make bumper contact.

Every bumper there is scratched because you have a 10cm margin with the other cars, and nobody repairs their bumpers or expects to keep them virgin, you just won't park anywhere !

Yes I did because I was trying to understand this pre-occupation people have with parking issues in CT.
Look them up for yourself.
BTW, the only centre that has bays of the right size I visited was Cape Gate, for all sorts of vehicles including well marked bays for use by disabled persons.

Precisely the point. Anyone who has travelled a bit into those cities knows that what the lot on this thread are moaning about is nothing compared to other places in the World.

Some would argue that that is why cars and vehicles are fitted with bumpers.

Sounds like you failed your drivers licence and need to drive a super mini with reverse assist cameras so you can get into a parking bay.
 
Nope you will not catch me. I am not that stupid to allow myself to ever be caught by this bunch.

But I know someone who "suffered under this", with all sorts of rubbish written on her car and pasted on the windscreen. The incident is what made me look at this thread in the first place. The hurt caused to the individual affected was not minimal.

If only it was harmless. There are many examples in this thread where the whole issue became vindictive.

There is a very easy solution to this, just park properly. I've also been annoyed many times when I get to my car with my kids in tow and somebody parked so badly next to me that I have to struggle to get my kids in. And most of the time these morons drive small mini cars.

MYBB members wrote on someone's car and posted the pics here? I agree that should be reported to the police and the forum admins. Oh, wait, you are talking garbage.

Show us these examples where this became vindictive? I mean if you are referring to the ones where someone parks illegally in a disabled bay in a branded vehicle and guys here posted that on FB, then I still don't get your level of pain.
 
That's why I park at the back where my post box is. It's a bit of a walk, but easy to get in and out of. The back. LOL.
