The fact is that SA do not have proper talent identification and talent shaping systems in place. Plain and simple. Ask yourself why it is so easy for foreigners to identify youth talent in Nigeria and Ghana than it is in SA... means they have matches to watch and places to find players.

My point is simply put; there is not near enough talent inside SA. It's not difficult to identify the talent, it's all there to see. Nigeria for example have an abundance of it and we (SA) don't.

I actually don't think the Bafana individual players are that bad. It has more to do with the team and whether gel is in place to keep things together.

I was wondering if the Bafana strikes practice striking? It is their job right? to strike the ball that is...they're either way off target or kick like girls...is there no way for them to practice their striking?
 
I thought we played very well in the 2nd half and were unlucky not to score.I don't think modise should be given a free role,hes a great player but needs to be playing amc not a freerole.Iraq were impressive with closing down the ball all over the pitch but they did not make any real chances,i think we'll beat NZ with ease.As for spain...Well we are better at defending than NZ!But we will lose that game.As for the lack of whites in the team...well our black players ARE WAY SUPERIOR to the whites.What decent white south african footballers are there?There is one white in the team,booth and he played well but he is pasted it imo,he has no pace at all.Just heigh and a bit of strength.

There is actually a lot of talent. It is just being mismanaged by the powers-that-be. Our under 12s have won the world cup TWICE in about 8 years. The way they won it was by totally outplaying their opposition and winning by scores like 2-1, 5-1 and 3-0. They dribbled, passed and shot at goal, leading to that type of success TWICE!. The boys played their hearts out: They looked like they were willing to die on the field.

Now fast forward to Bafana Bafana: You have people who, first of all, don't even know what they are doing on the field. They can't hold the ball, they can't pass the ball, they can't shoot straight (or just shoot) and they can't defend. They just run aimlessly (if they run at all, because they are a very static bunch). They will keep on doing this until they lose possession and have a goal scored against them. Then they do what they do best: Run like headless chickens in panic-mode! And we are talking about professionals here! What happened?

It seems like there is absolutely no accountability in the national squad: Any player can do as he pleases and there will be no consequences. Another thing is the absolute lack of respect for the fans by the coach and the players. No wonder Bafana Bafana have been playing to quarter-full stadiums. Why should people go and watch people play like that? An example is yesterday's game against Iraq. Clearly Fanteni and Parker were off-form (at least in the second half). There were players like Mashego and Simphiwe Tshabalala sitting on the bench, very enterprising and attacking players. The coach did nothing, despite the crowd's restlessness. When we were left with 10 minutes he made the changes, but it was too late.

The strikers did not gel very well together.Pienaar should have come on earlier..I'd like to see them play one man upfront with modise in a shadow striker/AMC role and pienaar on the wing.

Exactly! Modise is a very effective attacking midfielder. I think this current role of a distributor is too heavy a burden for him. He is good when running at players and he is one of the few players who possesses a decent shot.

Agree on both points.

watching some of them for the first time, one could see the skill, but also the way every guy, when he got the ball wanted to "do something" himself. Especially Modise, aware that others think he's good, passes the ball, runs into any gap then asks for it back.
That's not teamwork or strategy...Ronaldo doesn't even hog the ball like that.
They end up dicking around in 'one two's' too long, either lose the ball or the striker is already covered, gaps close etc and the 'move' dies. And when they do strike, its pissweak shots like Parker's or a later attempt where he 'shows' to everybody that "I'm going to hit the ball" then takes the shot. You don't see Rooney, Lampard etc gesticulating first, its either a 'snap' shot or the chance goes begging.

Kind of basic stuff really. When I played futsal (quite high up over here) I always said; when in doubt, or when you can't pass to anyone and you are anywhere in striking range, hit the f***n ball...its better than hogging it and losing it. The more times you strike the better your odds of scoring.

Lets hope they beat NZ and still go through on goals...or is that too much to ask.

btw, Aus and NZ qualify through Asia for WC but for Confed they represent Oceania...NZ surprisngly beat Aus in 2007 to qualify for this.
Aus are the first team (other than SA) to qualify for WC

On another note the Fed Govt had a Commission of Inquiry into soccer a few years back; the league was told what to do, long standing clubs were folded or merged and a new A league was formed. The winner of this league does very well in the Asia club champs too.

But if the SA govt did that....?

Until they change the name they will never amount to anything. How can anybody take 'the boys' seriously? How can they take themselves seriously?
And it is time that they dispense with this "go, play and enjoy yourself" non-sense. They are there to do a job and that is to win. I couldn't care one bit how much they enjoy themselves or not.

In the sub 16 age category. where all the best teams look for players. Like Arsenal finding that gem of a striker at age 12. We don't have such well developed youth systems as does Nigeria/Ghana etc. They get their youngsters into the European Leagues to get trained up (mostly). Hope that clarifies it for you.
