Baldur's Gate 3

There are a lot of games that's been amazing in early access, such as for example Factorio. When released it just worked, and they kept adding to it and making it better and better.

But that worked because it's an open game where you can do whatever you want, if you come back after a time you can just make a new game.

I don't want to do early access in a role playing game. Even if I hit no bugs, now I finish act 1, then I have to wait 6 months before I can continue my game?

I see many good EA reviews on the title, it is hard to spot any reasonable criticism. What I am surprised about is by how many people are happy with the $60 price and that it is worth every cent yada yada. Now, I don't have an issue with the price, but the price shouldn't be argued in your review and it only amounts to a shilling in the greater scheme.

$60 is $60, the game is positioned as a triple AAA title, and the argument should be terms with where the game is positioned at and not the price per se. All I am seeing is, you will get more than 90+ hours game time, replay value is high! CSGO is now F2P, many players will get more than 1000+ hrs, not to mention the many other F2P titles. The argument in how much game time and replay value a price tag is worth is void and null. It is the experience, the production value, which is important.

The only thing that I do note is the DOS2 comparisons? People do know that it is made with Larian’s proprietary game engine right? This argument should be made in regard to lore and rulesets. The day DOS3 is released, everyone will be like, oh it is BG3. I did note one previously scriptor which worked on the original Baldur's Gate questioning why BG3 is a sequel and not a standalone title in the Forgotten Realms universe.

I am going to install the weekend and see how it is.

So... bad reviews in regard to the price is deleted on Steam. There is an entire discussion board about this phenomenon. I tend to agree with this, but they also delete other valid criticism within those reviews which seems to be a problem at the moment.

For those who cry about a $60 EA game, you already 'own' the licence, when the game release you will continue to 'own' the licence. Crybabies.

You do have other publishers which use EA as a mechanism to crowd fund, it is not a secret.

Steam also deleted my reply with screenshot being out on gog 5 mins to 7pm.

(Of course this was made on release day 6:55pm)

Got to protect the steam bottomline. Pathetic.

I definitely wont play EA. I even waited till after the "rework" patch for D:OS2. I only play games once, so I want it to be in the best state it reasonably can be.

Also wanted to wait, but I need my Dnd fix... This is the first proper DnD crpg in a very long time. Pathfinder and pillars of eternity are both awesome games, but it's not dungeons and dragons.

  • Your party hates you
  • All of the factions hate you

Safe spaces guy? LOL. It felt quite the opposite to me with my "2 hours" to midnight before bed and work today. But time will tell...
I read this article yesterday and was pretty skeptical about it. And indeed in my playthrough so far I'm having different outcomes. For him Shadowheart was was a tief(ling) towards him, but for me she was a sweetheart because I took the time to try and save her on the nautaloid and I'm a warlock with god-like charisma.

And THAT is why this game is growing on me more and more. Because the permutations are so huge and it is up to my sum of my choices and the thrill of the dice roll. Exactly like tabletop. We could all play the game and have completely different experiences.

I'm having a (eldritch) blast so far.

And truth be told, it's not like in Baldur's Gate 1 where Jaheira and Khalid are already aware of who you are due to your godfather being a Harper same as them. These companions are in a very crap situation, they don't know who to trust, the only thing keeping you guys together is a common cause. I'm sure as the game progresses your party members will warm up to you.

And then also, she's a damn evil cleric worshipping Shar so I would expect that she's a bit cold towards you.

The Githyanki are also pretty much evil and they do not trust anyone or anything, again pretty much to be expected.

The Warlock, Rogue and Mage is pretty decent towards me so far, but that's also because so far I haven't given them any reason to hate me... yet.

100% agree with all of that. The characters' behaviour and their attitude towards you and the world around them is very plausible and natural and normal. Having anything else would be bizarre.

There have been thousands of successful and fun tabletop campaigns run where the party members are adversarial towards each other and have conflicting attitudes and goals, but are forced together due to circumstances. It is perfectly acceptable from a storytelling point of view with many many options of where to steer the story.

Would really like to give this a go, but DND games like Baldur's Gate are generally an all-or-nothing experience for me. I tend to immerse myself in the story and characters too much to only have a portion of the game to play, with potential for bugs etc.

If that is your situation then I'd recommend that you rather wait for release. It also isn't polished at all, very jancky in lots of places.

I'm well aware that I'm an outsourced tester for Larian, I knew what I was getting into.

EDIT: my point is that the janckiness very much breaks the full immersion experience that you are eventually going to get with the full release.

I watched a couple streamers playing it yesterday. Lots of camera issues during dialogue and characters falling through floor, etc. Looked very buggy

Yeah lots and lots of bugs. My favourite one so far is Shadowheart got critically hit so hard by a Goblin Assassin that the whole game crashed to desktop at the exact moment the weapon connected with her

Had a bug yesterday where I apparently critical hit the guy so much his whole character model teared into some weird looking stretched out mess, looks like he got partially sucked through a black hole or something.

I know this is early access and I expect things to go wrong a lot in the early days, but in all honesty I have seen much worse as well.

More than happy to report bugs, gameplay issues, issues with game rules not function as they're supposed to, etc. It also means that if a good number of EA players actively report their finding it would hopefully speed up development.
