Bandwidth price crunch

Four international fibre projects are racing to complete ahead of each other on the west coast of Africa to give some much needed additional capacity and price competition to SAT3. The drop in bandwidth prices could be spectacular.

I really wonder if that'll happen over here? Unless neotel decides they're going to use that we're going to be paying the same, lets keep our fingers crossed that Telkom don't get hold of that first

The special commission released a report today showing that all the companies with a stake in South African fibre projects had been colluding on price to keep screwing the public. When questioned, the consortiums said "Piss off."

The still-in-hiding NeoTel could not be found for comment.

:p

Realistically the best we can expect is our line speed will go to 8 / 16 / 24Mbps and we will still pay the same for 3Gb and line rental....

One can only hope i guess. Unfortunatley everyone involved in telecoms in SA has prooved to be a dissapointment. ISPs make up attractive looking gimics, vouchers systems, top-up systems, etc. The 2 telephone companies are not interested in competing with each other, after all, why should they. Through all this we have not seen any dramatic change of any shape or form, inspite of ever hopefull "I wanna be first to bring the good news" jounalists producing "but wait it's coming" atricle after article.

sigh indeed...think I'll move to Zim

All good things will come to pass. We might just die waiting.
