Bank report hackers face jail

The Competition Commission has appointed a legal expert specialising in media law to advise it on the Banking Council's uncensored report on, inter alia, banking charges that are still in the public domain.

...

Directions on how to decipher the censored parts of the report was first published on MyBroadband.com.

...

The commission had an agreement with that country's major retail banks that confidential information would be "scratched out". The hackers however made the highly technical instructions of how to decipher the invisible portions available on MyBroadband

Mokoena says in the course of their investigations the police will probably have discussions with MyBroadband on the original source of the directions.

Surely that's not grounds for legal action? Telling people how to do something?

Would you by law need to hand over the details? What are your options RPM?

LOL @ "highly technical instructions" :D

I can remember reading the "highly technical instructions" on one of these threads. I think it involved like 5 mouse clicks or something :p

Remember that old Standard Bank ad with the computer class and the people clicking their mouse on the screen?

For some people 5 clicks is a tad beyond their intellect. See government for details.

If the police involved are even vaguely competent, they will soon realise there is no case, as the full documents ( quite visible with a mere preference colour change in Acrobat Reader ) were posted by the CC on their site. The CC is just trying a big PR thing here so they do not look so incompetent and stupid. The press love it - nothing like a whole bullsh1t about "hackers" and "highly technical instructions" to make a story.

The question to ask the CC:

If you have the technical competence to create the graphical versions currently up on your site in such a way as to protect the confidential bits, how come you didn't do that originally?

Ok, you are asking the Admin of the site to merge his threads which he probably knowingly posted seperately? Mmmm yeah...

At least a move of all the posts associated with the topic could be moved here.

Starting with Jaques's post?

It's no fun having to run around between 2 threads dissing on the CC and Fin24 :D ;)

Too much effort :p

Why the heck are threads from the Current Affairs section not showing up when clicking on the "New Posts" link?

I don't know if it's something that I may have blocked in my CP.
Don't know if we can, but have even checked and not found anything.
