Let's say i have the correct bank details of the recipient i want to transfer money to; i have the correct account number, full names and bank name. But I don't have the correct branch code. What will happen if i go ahead and make the transfer, will it go through?

I was using the Standard Bank App and trying to make a transfer to someone who is using a different bank. When i try to enter the branch code the digits get erased after i enter the second number, this left me very frustrated so i thought i try something else, since i know this person lives somewhere in …let's say Pretoria, and i choose "Pretoria MAIN" on the drop down list for branch codes, will this transfer be successful?
What is the purpose of branch codes anyway?

Thank you

Just use the universal branch code . . . .as long as the account number is correct you should be fine.

It doesn't matter. When doing EFT's, banks have one standard branch code so a "physical" branch code is not needed, only the bank account number.

It should just take longer.

In my experience if you get the right bank (regardless of branch code screwup) and don't fk up the account number then it gets there eventually. It'll just bounce within that bank until the work out which freakin branch has that account. I'd say extra 2 days?

Standard Bank needs an extra 00 for branch codes iirc.

OK thank you guys :) i have used the universal branch code and the recipient tells me he got a payment confirmation SMS from my bank but the money has not yet reflected on his account, but I'm sure all is fine now.

If the universal code is all we need then i think they should remove all this inner branch code s**t. One bank should have one code, That would make our lives a lot easier.

Hi

What is required for a sufficient transfer of the money via EFT?

Only the correct account number, bank and branch code?

Does the name of the account matter that much to get the money transferred?

Can you put an abbreviation of the account name, as long as the account number, bank and branch code is correct?

Account name doesn't matter.and for banks the branch code doesn't matter either. As long as the bank and account number is correct you'll be fine

Yup. As long as bank and account number correct. The rest is just for fun
