Case in point , New Zealand. Maybe have a look at their national conversation, when it comes to their past. Problem with you and all those that think that they do not have your heads stuck in their asses/ignorance, you do not want to engage on the topic, you have predefined and instilled views...not willing to explore, and to maybe just maybe be part of the solution...for you know "whiteys" were also damaged as result of our past and may actually come as surprise to you, whiteys are also part of this country/solution.

I think one of the main problems is a basic lack of empathy, combined with ignorance. Some folk just don't get it, unfortunately. There's a cultural, historical and social context that forms the basis of these issues, and it just gets ignored by the "just get over it" crowd.

None of this precludes black people from also having the capacity for racism or being dingbats overall, obviously.

The problem, in my experience, is that I am expected to just shut-up and agree with whatever the other person is saying and as soon as I put in a differing opinion I get slammed for it.
Listening to 702 this morning - the conversation was about that Khumalo idiot and whether his Facebook post should be taken as seriously as the Sparrow woman's post. There was a caller who said that it was pretty much okay for blacks to have these views and to even act on them because of apartheid etc. This isn't the first time I have come across this mentality and the hypocrisy makes me sick.

There is absolutely no way a constructive discussion can be had when there are double standards and hypocrisy. I don't even bother trying anymore.
 
First world problems, we have a failing education system but an idiot on the news causes more of an uproar.

I don't have a problem where presenters are not English speakers but one female news reader (who sounds milk white) on 702/567 always refers to Bait Bridge and has done for a long time.

All I can say is, discover your true self, even just a bit of it...and you see the world as it really is , and not as how you are. You get a broader perspective, ....you start seeing the pain, that so many do not even realise is the flue of their words/actions...and all you have is empathy.

This guy gets it. Can I challenge you on your last point though? To what end should black people endure the callousness of some within the white community when it comes to racial matters. Do you not realise that the more people get poked something is bound to happen. Black people have exercised great restraint even in the onslaught but the likes of Velaphi Khumalo are just but a manifestation of anger that is starting to simmer. Time and time again we are told that we should "get over it", "are too sensitive" and outright hurtful things are excused and trivialised in the name of "free speech".

I counter that with that many of us are angry people, regardless of race, gender, culture and creed.

I think you should drop this view that a certain group has to show restraint - we are all one in the same. we face different challenges but there are groups that face greater challenges to us, an example is that we have to deal with an idiot or two while other africans have to dodge bullets and avoid some of the most horrible diseases known to man.

where black men are getting angry, women are getting angry too. where white farmers are getting angry, the muslim community is getting angry too.

the point is to not "get over it", but instead of making this a racism issue or a feminist issue, make it a humanist issue - we are all the same.

if there are two idiots fighting in the news over racism and flinging racial insults, it's not about who says what or who is the bigger culprit, it's about seeing what their fight and their arguments are - they're two deluded people fighting over trivial crap.

let's help everyone and see everyone as equal, they at least deserve the chance to prove themselves to us as individuals

My stance on this is zero tolerance for any form of racial discrimination, whether private or institutionalised. When someone discriminates against someone based on race they should be taken to task, I don't care which way the pendulum swings. When the state decides to discriminate against a group of people based on their race they should be taken to task, I don't care which way the pendulum swings. Our constitution is unary, thus the hypocrisy present within our society is bull****.

I'm not saying black people should endure racism or callousness. I'm saying we need to end the cycle, and I don't think perpetuating this idea that black people cannot be racist is helping. It's a different form of bigotry, as it treats black people like children that shouldn't be held accountable if they do something wrong.
