My sister has a little white Hyundai Atos Prime right with xxxxxx insurance company. . .
She is paying sometimes over R1000 rand per month just for insurance, she only travels about 900km a month:eek:

Recently she reversed into an intercom thing and it took out her rear break light,as well as a slight dent by the lightt on the body work.
Ok so she files a claim for the insurance company to fix it, adn it turns out that they want R3000 for Excess:eek::eek::eek:Excess!
So we get ahold of the pannelbeating place where the car is scheduled to go for repairs, and guess what, the Damage is on the car is only R3700!
so the rip off bastards are only paying r700 while my sister has to pay R3000? wtf?
We cancled the insurance this morning:cool:

Surely your sister read the policy and agreed to it and thus knew this already?

Ya paying that much for insurance isnt really the problem.
Does it not seem abnormal to you that she has to pay R3000 for excess when the damage repair cost is only R3700?

I am not sure I agree with the "b_stard" insurance companies statement. When your sister took the insurance she should have been fully aware of the excess she had. If she wanted a lower excess she could happily have paid more than R900 per month and got one.

Without an excess the companies would need to charge a lot more and people would be claiming for every little incident. The excess is there to prevent this.

The excess is not dependant on the amount of damage done. It is not percentage based, it is a fixed amount. Again it is to avoid people claiming for small incidents. If she had R30,000 damage the excess would still be R3,000

Ya i am not sure she realized this but point is that is that its quite alot to be paying for insurance on that car, a recent search on hippo revealed premiums half the price and the same excess amount,i dont think she read the fine print that well but still . .
Insurance companies are schniesters

why so high on a lil atos ?

i pay like R450 a month on an alfa, and with R2500 excess ?

Exactly, hippo has shown me some places that are like R450 so it is cancled already.

What i dont get is that its parked in a good, Access controlled area( Like a tiny neighbourhood with walls surrounding and and a 24/7 security guard controlling entrance, not to mention it is parked in a locked garage at night)

Have you paid the R3000 excess yet? If not -rather pay the R3700 - at least then you can tell other insurace companies you're claim free.

Lol that knock just saved you +/- R300 pm.
You should pay around R450. Try that First for Woman insurers they pretty good apparently.

The more you tell us the more obvious it becomes that your sister really did not do her homework. High excess, expensive premium.

What did this mean in your original post anyway

She is paying sometimes over R1000 rand per month just for insurance

Surely she was paying a set amount?

Pay as you drive

I tend to agree with greylid on this one in calling insurance companies b@stards...

They are only out to maximise their profits, not give the customer the best service.

Greylid : My suggestion is find an insurance broker who deals with M&F or Santam and get them to quote... I am paying R300pm on a golf 4... my excess is like R1500

Thanks, um i will tell her that. Maybe its so high because she is only 22?

Just watch out for first for women, my fiance was with them and the charged R600 +- for her citi golf for the first year. After that they put up her premium to something over R900 even though she didn't claim at anytime. Their excuse being that the panel beaters prices have gone up considerably and they were cheaper than anyone else and had to move inline with other insurance comapnies.

I hope this makes sense.
