It seems to me that generally people associate a higher price with quality, and there definitely is a correlation. but I'm just curious as to what people think of what battery brands.

Varta is my preferred brand but Banner is Austrian so I think a good choice

Apparently Banner is OEM for Porsche now. https://www.bannerbatterien.com/en/...anner-batteries-under-the-best-engine-bonnets

I fitted a Banner to my mom's E90 320d when the original battery from 2009 died in 2020 so I guess it has to last 10 years to be as good as the original battery. Amazing considering the 3km drive she does everyday that it lasted that long

A funny story my E46 BMW back in the day had it battery die on it after 10 years - most german cars have battery in the boot so less heat hence it last longer. Call BMW for the battery and in 2013 I was quoted R5000.00 - shopped around, went to the battery centre and I was given the exact same BMW branded battery for R2700.00.
When I sold the car the buyer was looking around the car and he said you "fitted a genuine BMW battery that must have costed alot, this car must have been very well maintained"

Varta is now imported by AutoX who supply the Willard and Sabat. It should have its own option but I could only choose 10.

Deltec and Royal, are a couple of others that I forgot/ran out of options.

Banner does not have a local presence tho?

I bought it from Atlas Battery Centre in Durban. Here it is in the car, do you think I got sold a fake Banner?

The price you paid will answer that question. People are importing batteries from everywhere right now so its possible its the real thing. I suspect it would not be the cheapest battery if they did tho.

I checked my photos it was 2021 Jan (thought it was December 2020), Can't remember what I paid. What would have been the correct price?

It certainly wasn't the cheapest option they had as I wanted to go AGM
