LOL, you gotta be careful on clan servers, they will kick you for doing too well, what they deem to be camping and so on. Better to stick to mweb, sgs and so on. I like the SS server because good games go down there but being a clan server it leaves you open to people who have this new kicking ability :D.

BTW, let your friend copy the whole Patch folder. It will have 2 folders in it called: Patch and Xpack1 you need both.

*Only a pleasure, I know what it's like needing a patch for something and don't have the Bandwidth to download it :D We're in the same boat.

Okay... someone please tell me how the heck does someone upgrade the Jets? I just want the first unlock :(

I'm contemplating suiciding into tanks / helis etc. Just can't shoot down another jet!!! Aaarrgghh!

I think my first 100 xp was made up of 50 assists.
 
most jets work on choppers before they try take on the jets.

and as dooby mentions, assists in damaging stuff like armour and such.

@killa nah, it's not the friendly mines that take me out, it's the enemy mines near the friendly mines.

guys get smart and they place mines between your own team's mines and thus, when some1 nades/shells/rockets any of them, you are screwed.
 
If u guys are downloading or want to download the patch from a torrent

I can confirm it works.

Open origin games folder, open battlefield 3, open updates, and delete the 2 folders if u have them.
Install update.
Right click on battlefield 3 icon in origin and select repair installation.
There, u done.
I just had to download a tiny 400kb patch or file or something.
You might download nothing or yours may be bigger.

So I managed to take down a Jet and unlocked Flares (phew, finally) but all the time I damage other Jets / Helis - I have never got any assist points? What am I doing wrong? I can fly a jet for 5-10 minutes and shoot a lot of things, but I lack the "killer shot". Most smoke heavily but never go down :( No assist points, nothing. So frustrating.

I'm no good with jets yet but now and then I do ok. Usually if in no danger and have something in my sights I slow down the jet a helluva lot almost to a stall while I shoot to give me more time. When I am in danger I find at speed around 300 is when the jet turns the most for me along with a combination of facing sideways, holding down arrow and banking or pull down at the same time. I only use afterburn to come out of a stall or to get far from the center so I can turn in again for another decent run.

I tend not to fly stuff because people rage like you can't believe if you make a mistake or "waste" the helicopter or whatever.

So I can't really practise and get better, and because I can't get better I don't fly -> endless cycle.

Yup it's fking annoying how people act. I see it so often. I think dice is too blame though, a bf 2 style single player would have been great for learning.

hehe. You gotta learn to dominate them raging kids. I get raged at I just make it worse for them on purpose and have a fun time at it :p

I agree, i cant fly, but when i see a jet or heli and im in the mood to try im gonna give it a go. Even though i dont usually last longer then 2 mins. Ive gotta practice.

which is why we should hope that the "warm-up" mode they mentioned, will be implemented.

will be nice to practise some of this stuff while you wait for a server to reach minimum number of players to start a round.

that is strange Izzzy. I haven't kept a close eye on it, but maybe an assist will only happen closely after you have damaged the target and it gets taken down.

Just log onto a server with a few players some of them are even training grounds (no points) and then you can practice for as long as you want. Just look through the server list there are a few, but be warned on some that say they are for jet, helicopter training and do give out points you will find some chops there just waiting to shoot you down so they can up their points. Just look around until you get on one that is been used properly. They wont bitch if you crash but they will laugh... but thats cool.
