BBM coming to iOS?

The thing with RIM is that all communication is encrypted so goverment's etc can't see what you are doing. That is why most goverment officials overseas had BB's and also why some Asian countries threatened to block all RIM services (because they couldn't spy on it).

So other than if you a government official what motivation to get a BB? :p

You sure it isn't your 2G that is buggy? :p
2G?
I've never owned a BB but I find email on my iPhone seamless and an absolute pleasure to use.
I find gmail + iOS an absolute nightmare some times. Quite often messages that I know that are there (I can see them on the PC or BB) disappear into the All Mail folder. If I could figure out the reason for this madness maybe I could figure out a way to prevent it.

Sounds like conversation threading is playing games on you. It can easily be turned off.

I would also like to know. WhatsApp works so nicely on all platforms already. I for one would not have a need to have BBM on my Android and struggle again with PIN's etc. But perhaps there are people that would like this I guess.
WhatsApp doesn't seem to work as fast on BB, BBM would be nice because at least I would know they are getting notified of the messages and such.

BBM on any other device than a BlackBerry will kill RIM for good. BBM is the reason most of it's general client base owns a BB.
True, but we talking sub 2k phones here, where as androids and iPhones are above 3k, BB has become the new Nokia 3310.

You can get a little Android phone for like R1000.00 plus minus. The Vodafone V858 is a example of this. Beauty of Android...you get ones in almost all price ranges.

Presumably they could have made it available to the sim enabled models?TBH I found it buggy and unreliable and that put me off it.

I run whatapp on my samsung tab(3G/wifi). I registered it wiith my cell number while my tab has a different sim. Whatsapp works well on the tab, even if there's no sim in it & it gets data over wifi from my ADSL. (note I installed it with no sim in tab, over wifi.

BB don't play nice with WhatsApp overall.

My sister never complained. I also always check that a message gets delivered before I put my phone down and her messages always got delivered between 1 - 2 seconds after I sent it. My sis no longer use Blackberry as I converted her kicking and screaming to a Moto RAZR....she is loving it btw...but my mom still on BB and her messages also gets delivered instantly. She is on the West Coast...middle of no where with a BB 8520 which is EDGE only....though Vodacom do have 3G in her 1 traffic light town :-)

I read speculation that RIM might be providing BBM on other platforms to slow down the mass exodus. Bear in mind that BB is losing all relevance in some major markets. As such, there isn't a critical mass to keep people on BB. So in an attempt to stop people from leaving, they want to make it easier for them to communicate with people on other platforms. This might not makes in our market but something clearly needs to be done in others.

P.S. Whatsapp works better on my Android than BBM did on my BB.

Did anyone consider it has to do with the new server software that allows remote management of android and ios based phones? BBM and whatsapp are not the world yah know.

It is what I use my phone for majority wise...so to me...it kinda is. :-) Being able to make a call with it...well...thats just kind of a bonus. :-)
Ja, me too. Use it extensively. Chat to mates all over the world via Whatsapp. It is just so user friendly and cost effective as well as being quite versatile. All that's missing is voIP.

I said most, not all, and I know at least 20 BB users
But congrats on the converting.

Lol, what I meant was that the world doesn't just revolve around IM. For enterprise, the ability to control multiple platforms from a single solution is quite big.
