The only part of my beard that I have at the moment is on my chin, and my moustache, plus a little patch above my chin. I like growing it a bit but when it gets too long then I have to shave it all off and start again.

I like the 'just longer than stubble look', who trims their beard to a certain length and what do you use?

you don't have to shave it all off, just buy a philips beard timmer - you have different beard length levels you can choose from, from the one day stubble look to longer:

I use that clipper on the back of a shaver. Works wonders. Cannot recall the name but very nice little product.

not at all expensive, got mine from HiFi corp of all places, and its a very good product, comes with charger, so need for batteries, great beard trimmer.

Can't help. I'm currently letting the goatee go wild...

It does look really good, from some of the reviews as well. Now to find the thing.

That's called an Apache beard.
A patchie here and a patchie there!!

I shaved off my full beard two weekends ago... Was weedeating and too much sand and dirt got into it - so off it went!

/there was also too much grey coming through!!

sigh feel your pan OP, my goatee gets bushy after a while

Just bought one from hifi Corp - last one left.

mybb to the rescue again!

On a side note - pooky you have facial hair? Awesome!

On a second side note, level 1 drops you down to like the fashionable one day stubble, I generally trim to levels 3 or 4.

Haha I'm not that young!

I only use hairclippers on my beard at the shortest setting. It's quick, painless and leaves you with a nice stubble. Can't remember when last I used a shaver. Hairclippers are less than R100.

They're also good for cutting your hair and bushy eyebrows :D

Urghh, shaving... :(. I got the gorilla genes from my dad, so now I rock with a full ass kicking beard in two weeks :(. After a week, it's damn long (not quite at "full beard" level though).

Worse thing ever, I shave to baby skin smooth in the morning, by the evening, the stubble is back :(.

I bought my hubby a Schick razor/trimmer combo thingey at Checkers for R99. It is waterproof, runs on 1 AAA battery and has 4 height settings. The trimmer works like a bomb and you can clean/rinse it very easily because its waterproof - just under the tap and voila. Also it's shorter than a toothbrush so you can chuck it in your travel bag and carry it with you, use it anywhere, wet or dry.

I actually considered getting one for myself too, just because it's so darn nifty. And for R100, battery included, its really worth it.
Here's a review:
