There was a dude with me in high school. I can never remember him without stubble.he rocked up in gr8 with stubble.not teenage stubble.man stubble.

Disinfect your razor before shaving with Dettol or Savlon.
After shaving, apply "Vaya" cream or the stick, it will stop the new hairs from growing in.

Don't shave against the grain of the beard, as that will tend to grow in more easily.

Ok, I'm 20 and my beard is starting to grow out but OMW is it painfull. the hair thats growing out seems to be curly which is giving me horrible acne and spots.
Any possible remedies? I look a whole lot better after a shave at the barber shop but a week later as thr hair starts growing out again it's a problem.

I can never really get past about 10 days before the itch drives me demented.

When I was 30 I got chicken pox and couldn't shave. Also was the middle of a humid Pietermaritzburg summer and almost lost my head. At 8 days I shaved. I couldn't wait any more. The relief was worth the risk of scarring... me thinks.

So this begs the question, why do you want to grow a beard then?

I also get skin irritation from shaving. Switched over to an electric shaver. Takes longer, can hurt a bit more but the irritation is gone.

@Pho3nix if you have curly hair then ingrow hair problem will arise as with me.
I'm kind of in your situation...my beard would grow but I would only need to shave like once a week now its just taken on a life of its own. But I think a bigger reason for my ingrown hairs is that last year my wonderful electric razor blades went blunt, I bought a new one and it could never match up...so now I'm using razor blades.
Right now I'm still in the testing phase of different methods.

-I've been told not to shave by others which I dont find appealing
-Shaving with the grain (i.e the direction of which the hair grows) helps but again if you have curly hair the hair may still curl while its still growing.
-Vaya smooth...tried the gel but hell it hurt my sking
-I'm using DX Smooth which I find easier on my skin and it has improved on decreasing the number of bumps that come from ingrown hairs

There still are the few ingrown hair bumps and I'm currently planning on shaving every second day to keep the hairs at bay. If this doesn't work I fear that I may give up on shaving and be an unsightly person

After shave...

Use a proper cleanser after daily shower (if you don't have to shave every day like us with hardebaard ).

oh snap i did not just read this .....

been shaving since grade 7 as well ....be happy you didnt have to cause now its the worst thing

especially if you want to take someone out and look neat you have to shave almost every day
