Beijing 2008 Opening Ceremony

Aha so your boycott only involves live viewing? Hmm, I can see how that will make China change it's policies!! :)

I never said anything about a boycott... I said "I'm a Tibet Sympathizer" & "I didn't watch" - Just look at the parts I quoted ;)

I could not watch the live/re- broadcast at all, was not even close to a TV. So now I'm downloading the BBC aired 4 hour opening.

While we are on the Olympic topic, its highly likely that South Africa(Cape Town/Durban/Jhb) will start bidding in 2011 for the 2020 Olympic Games.

Just watched it now, and all I can say...Amazing!

Was a bit disappointing that I did not see SA team, think they might have entered the stadium when the damn Comcast cut to commercials.

Yes bring on Shaka-Zulu, Fooretrekkers, Jan-van Riebeek and biltong for our opening!

We have cultures too!

Lets also show the world

ps. just hope the world cup goes well and we dont give the world a bad image

Just spent the last hour watching the opening ceremony and all I can say is the Chinese are something else ENTIRELY.

The quality and class of that show was leaps and bounds beyond anything we've ever seen before and SA will battle to present an opening ceremony for the WC that is even 10% as impressive

2008 people all drumming in time was probably one of the most impressive things I've ever seen. The lifting of the olympic rings in light was mind blowing (I still don't know how they did it). Using the entire city almost for the opening ceremony with fireworks all over the place was equally impressive and eye opening. I don't think I've ever seen a city use anything but the stadium for the opening ceremony.

From an architectural standpoint they used the design of the Birds Nest beautifully for the lighting..

All in all, I am blown away with that opening ceremony, it was absolutely incredible.
I have never seen a display like that ever.It was truly great.I doubt any other country will come close for many years:cool:

I only watched the end, missed the beginning. Awesome stuff, the flying dude and fireworks, 40 billion USD well spent.

Underlining message... We have the people, skills and resources... Don't mess with us World! haha Yeah, it was an excellent show.

Oh, and there is a conspiracy theory starting now about when China cut the American Anthem during the Phelps gold medal awarding. Happened during the "land of the Free" part... Love those theories!

It was stunning but did read this morning that most of the fire works that we saw where computer generated. Who ever has the next Games have a lot to live up to!!!

Yip I agree!! Very nice!

China spent the whole opening ceremony trying to inform us of the importance of their inventions to the world. Propably trying to make us forget about their human rights abuses.

It is not like the US and Russia and other countries don't have their own skeletons in their closets...

For those who care, the entire opening ceremony, in HD, is posted on Usenet. Both are around 6.4 GB. One is from Australia, the other from NBC in the United States.
