Being Capped aint half bad.

Nice:)

Guy the WBS provided arial worked for me! Donno why you all say its junk, its +10db, maybe you just didn't spend enough time finding the correct placement and direction (its quite fiddly).

I can't say the antennae didn't work for me, I placed it at the top of our warehouse, which on a little bit of hill - so its helped me get 100%/"5 dot" signal.
However, thats not whats in question here - I have the antennae and it hasnt helped my speed after the cap.

Lets admit it - South Africans are still very much used to 56K - should we be capped to (100% useable) 64k - I think 100% of us would be extremely happy, and would be able to live with our 'cap' until the start of the new month. Thats why WBS has to make the speed after the cap unusable so that users can purchase more bandwidth. I think its unfair and that clients should receive on the promises made to them - it is after all what we're paying for.
Personally - I don't think that this issue will ever be resolved - its one of those "peace around the world" requests; possible just not probable. Everyone is driven by money and especially once they get a taste of it (and see that they can get away with it) - they carry on milking everyone more and more. WBS will carry on with their course, making capped speed unusable and charging clients for bandwidth.
The standard SMB's that dont even hit their cap (probably 3GB would be sufficient) can live and will be mostly happy with their product; whereas everyone else who actually wants more from their product will either have to restrain themselves from using all their bandwidth or fork out the extra money to get some extra Gigs.

At the end of the day - if there were enough dedicated fed up people - it could be said that something could be done. However, 95% of the general population is all for complaining but not for action; whatever their issue might be [lazy, scared, etc.] If anything, we can see from history that the rest of that 95% can only be swayed to the side of the 5% should their frustration reach a critical level. Due to the nature of the problem, that would probably never happen. [Look at the Telkom abuse, its far worse than the whole cap theory of WBS - yet its been years apon years, and their still hasn't been anything strong enough from the public.]

C'est la vie.

Look, all peace around the world stuff aside, 5 lights don't mean squat. I had 5 lights before the entennae and I couldn't do a thing. I am getting fantastic speeds post cap, albeit subject to wiered lag, and it is not because of some mistake. I know what it's like to have a useless internet conneciton, but if the coverage map says you have full signal ability, why don't you guys get hold of iBurst as they are more than keen to see you running at good speeds!? On a more technical note, that aerial or patch or whatever is hella direction sensitive, test it with a ping as 5 lights means zip!

Hi Nab,
My speeds before I reach my cap are perfect - [depending of the source of the download] - I get +-100KBps on average and my pings are pretty good. I am sure that my signal strength/speed is not the issue.
My post cap speeds are unusable though - I couldn't view local sites (e.g. standard bank internet banking) - it would either load exremely slowly, or, more likely it would timeout. All the international sites I tried to view would time out.

I would say everything pre-cap is perfect on my side and I am very happy with the service (not counting Call Centre, and the odd occurence of a network issue - but i can live with it). I just wish post-cap was in fact 64k for me.

I had the exact same speeds before my cap, but there is something else to take note of! a 1MB service should offer d/l at 128K not 100K and many people are getting that!! That means that even with all the lights (like me) and the 100k(also like me) you are still running at 78% of capacity which = a 49k connection! That's not all, apparently the lights only show connectivty to the towers and are not a representation of throughput! The nature of wireless is that it is subject to latency issues, and even though I can get up to 20k of internaitonal d/l now I still have to refresh pages quite often but it is still very functional. So to make a long story short, your signal needs to be boosted! A 15 degree turn of may aerial can have serious implicaitons on my speeds!

Well like I said, 100KBps is my average speed. Depending on the source, I can download anything from 4KBps to 118KBps (fastest speed I can recall from memory on a HTTP download).

My arguement is that if I am capable of such speeds, then when I hit my cap, asking for 64kbps shouldn't be impossible.

Oh but it is bro. I had the exact same speeds as you before the cap and terrible speeds afterwards until I beefed up the aerial! Look at that punk craigsa scoring 150, please phone iBurst, ask for Shaun, tell him ur problem and get what I have told you from the horses mouth. Forget what you get when ur not cap, and don't try guess how the technology works. Asummption is the mutha and more importantly you shouldn't have to try figure it out, it's their responsiblity to make it work and iBurst (unlike Telkom) are more than willing to try!

Well Ill give it a shot - though I've read getting hold of Shaun Green is as likely as speaking to the pope.

I've got my antennae at the top of a warehouse pointing towards the Tower (if I am not mistaken) and we're on "elevated" piece of land, so I don't know what more can be done unless my antennae's direction isn't what it should be (which is probably the case by the sounds of it). I don't see any WBS staff climbing on the roof of my warehouse though :P

Hi SP,

Please pm me your detail and I will contact you on Monday afternoon (unfortunately management meetings in the morning)

Regards,

Shaun

Hi Shaun,
Thanks for making the first move there - I've PM'd you my details and look forward to hearing from you.

Only problem is I'm not capped anymore as I bought another 3GB for my account so trying to fix something when it isn't broken won't help much. I'm sure we can make a plan though, I could either use up my extra 3GB before the end of the month or we can just leave it for next month. (Unless you of course can fix it without it having to be capped.)

Thanks once again!
