Best Android media players

Android apps are amazing. In some ways I regret getting the Nokia N8. Why oh Why doesnt Nokia go the way of Android :(

Tried Winamp on my dads phone and it works amazingly well. Will have a look at the others soon :)

Nokia agreed with Microsoft on going with Windows Phone 7

I read that aswell, Nokia has completely has gone down hill ever since the N95, it seems that they refused to upgrade from symbian even after other manufacturers jumped off of the boat a long time ago, lets hope they release some good handsets now with 7, wont be surprised if theres going to be custom roms for some of them to allow Android.

Windows 7 is okay, but it lacks true multitasking and doesnt have as good a market as android lets not mention iOS...

Long live android!!

PS It still sucks that we cant get paid apps a ligitamite way, it really cripples the handset.

These are really more Audio players than Media players.. How can you have an article about Android media players and not mention Rockplayer, the closest thing to VLC released for Android, the only thing that plays almost every format?

yeah forgot to mention vplayer and rock player , the best on the app market

For me, and I've tried them all, Poweramp is the best. It is regularly updated, incredibly stable and has awesome options. Well worth it to check out the demo.

Until VLC for Android is released; soon.

Having alternate music players is what drove me from the IOS ecosystem in the first place. The music player on the iPod Touch is just horrid. My main irritation is seeking to a specific spot on a 2 hour mix or 1.5 hour podcast after a sync which resets the play positions; the seek bar resolution is too low and there is no way to enter the position numerically. Then someone released a better music player which had the features I wanted (for a fee which in SA meant I was SOL) but before I could fix my inability to pay through the usual fakery, they changed their T&C to make competing with their own apps grounds for removal from the App Store. That and so much more lost me as an Apple customer forever.

Welcome to the Light Side.

Apple fanboys tend to forget this one. Offer a better alternative and you're out. It's just one dick move in a long line of dick moves by Apple. Not even Microsoft in it's evil days did that.

any one know of any good podcast players. I know most players will be able to play as most podcasts are mp3, but I need something I can "sort of" replace itunes, in terms of management, updating, and automatic check for podcast updates. marking played/watched vs unplayed/unwatched podcasts, etc.

The ones I have tried aren't that great. Free ones are ACast (ok) and CarCast (buggy as heck). I have not tried the non-free ones as I don't have a checkout account. Instead, I am writing one for myself. The challenges in dealing with really bad RSS feeds are not insignificant but I think I have it all worked out. Now to put it all together. I really wish Android had a native key/value and document store db in addition to SQLite.
