Hi all,

Looking for a email application I can use for Windows 8. Light-weight and able to connect to Hotmail/Outlook and Gmail.
Don't want anything heavy like Outlook 2010/2013.

Any recommendations?

Doesn't it have a built-in mail client for exactly that?

The one in Metro is pretty damn lightweight as well.

I know that Zimbra is not exactly lightweight, but in comparison with Outlook it is pretty much on par. Also checked at Axigen, but their desktop client (beta) is not available anymore… only their webmail client, but then you need to install a server.

Mozilla Thunderbird is in my opinion the best lightweight solution taking in consideration that you will need to add some plugins to be more like Outlook. Sylpheed I think is the most lightweight when it comes to regular releases. Second to Thunderbird is Postbox Express, also see that eMclient is mentioned in this thread.

What does this mean?

Afrikaans word, use your imagination.

The suggestion made by SauRoNZA is however true to his statement, the mail client in Windows 8 is a huge improvement upon Windows Live, but then you need to be a Windows 8 user to utilise it.

It's the one part of the Metro interface that I really enjoyed, the built-in Mail client.

Not really the biggest fan of it TBH but I did hear there were some improvements especially on Win8.1. Can it now connect to Gmail accounts? Remember it had some issues with that..

Apparently yes, however I don't user the default mail clients... so I cannot personally say yes.

I had it connected to multiple Gmails from the word go.
