Best exercise to lose weight?

I have done a few yo yo spells in the last 2 years with my weight. Currently I am in decent shape and just shy of getting 'ripped'.
I have to agree that diet does play a major role but my biggest issue with eating healthy is um eating healthy.
We are surrounded by junk food and what's worse is my dad eat's and drinks like a mad man so there is always the temptation of unhealthy food around.

Also I have no intention of ever cutting out sugar in my coffee and some other ridiculous tips that people suggest.I still eat quite unhealthy but I make up for it in the gym or by playing football. I must say that gym and resistant exercises made the quickest difference for my body when I started. I used to jog alot and never noticed much difference. As soon as I started doing basic reps at my neighbours gym, I noticed big changes in 2 weeks.

Just be prepared though for a long journey ahead if you have alot to lose. You will reach a point where you may be in decent shape and you will just want to get into better shape.I am currently there and the only way I can ripped and lean would be to actually behave with my diet. And I don't give 2 sheets about that :D

ok... so if I stick to a proper diet, and do regular "light" exercise (perhaps some cardio and a bit of weights), how long should it take me (ballpark) to lose 15kg.. given my current specs, I'm assuming that +/- 72kg would be my ideal weight.

I walk home everyday. I live right at the top of a mountain. So on the way home from work I get off & start my 3km trek uphill :)

Should take approx 15 - 20 weeks...but that is the only healthy and longlasting way to lose weight.

Am currently doing a bit of running and 3 x of those small programs (100 pushups, 25 pullups and 125 sit ups are my current goals).

I am supremely unfit so I jog every weekday around the block but end up stopping short and walking the rest of the way :o but I am noticing a little bit of improvement each time and make mental markers along the road I try to beat :p

I do all 3 programs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Starting to take my diet more seriously as well.

Will let you know in 15 weeks if it has worked :D

Let me tell you this though, I am probably the fastest stair climber and runner in this whole building at work but I am still probably one of the most unfit people here. So that doesn't really help, I reckon your body somehow adjusts to this.

Screw the weight readings.Just check your measurement around the navel.Should be less than a metre.
Stationary bike for 30min a day for 6 days a week is all you need.

Before you start exercising check your diet. You can exercise until you are blue in the face, but without the proper diet you won't lose any weight.

Once you are eating correctly 30-40 mins of cardio 4-5 times a week. Get your heart rate to 60-70% of max HR.

Quick question,is ok to still eat lots of protein on the rest day from exercising?

Exercise will help you loose weight if you diet. Exercise will make you fat if you do not eat correctly. Exercise makes you hungry.

Just a thought. ;)

I'm not saying sit on the couch and do nothing Exercise is good and aids in weight loss. If you are on a calorie restricted diet. It will help you to keep to the number of calories although you might have eaten 200 cal more. You burn it with exercise.

BF burns 650 - 850 cal with Power Yoga.

Even if you don't follow her guides, the videos can be interesting to watch.

well, I managed to drop from 97kg (1.8m) to 85kg in 10 weeks:
- 7 days running twice a day (20mins @ 9.5km/h)
- some weights (lately iPhone Bootcamp exercises which are a real pain)
- moderate diet (cut out all sodas but still drink occasional beer and mostly red wine or vodka).
- crappy diet fuel bars, protein and protein shakes during the day - no real junk-food or bread.

That is excellent stuff, 12kg in 10 weeks, wow!
Now you just have to maintain your current weight, thats the harder part.

I managed to lose on 20kg last year by eating right and doing weight training and cardio, this year i am not losing weight/picking up slightly because i stopped eating very right, its easier to cheat every now and then.

i think the balance is eat 90%, gym 10%
