Lost and Confused...
Hi all

Posting on behalf of a family member. Which is the best FNO to use in Cape Town, specifically in the Athlone area?

It seems like they have coverage for Octotel and Openserve.

Will be for light home usage, I figure a 20Mb line should be fine. Will use Afrihost as an ISP.

Curious to know your experience and which of them remain up during load shedding, etc.

TIA!

i stayed in surrey estate before and used mweb with openserve

there was only one time i had downtime which was due to opensevre upgrading the line

i moved to parow and have the same set up and its been over a year and no issues

I'm personally using Openserve and happy. Looks like they're a winner. Thank you for sharing.

Openserve is very expensive now
The reliability is second to none, I will gladly pay the nominal additional amount. I have friend and family with other FNOs and the amount of downtime they have rivals ADSL.

Good point
This is the reason I stick with my ISP
I've never had downtime except for 1 weekend in the last 13 years I've been with them

Agreed. Afrihost and Openserve has been rock solid for me. Wanted to get some thoughts from the locals before I shared my opinion.

I am in Thornton but Openserve have been rock-solid. The first time I was down in the last 3 years was this week for a few hours. I even received a call from Openserve to ask if my line was back up which was unexpected.

yeah buddy has vumatel

he switched providers cos the other one had no support on weekends

I'm on Octotel and haven't had any issues. I was with RSAWEB as ISP first and they were terrible, but since moving to Afrihost on Octotel, it's been great

Openserve so far best for me.

Allows you also to change ISP on the go as they dont use dhcp auth.

Openserve/Afrihost for me. I have had one down time since Aug-2019

Openserve all the way

Our house has started smelling bad since we signed up with the monopoly in the area, FrotFoot. You know how the saying goes : 'Better the monopoly you know than the monopoly you don't'

No such issues for the peeps on openserve.
