Best FREE internet Security

And the worst about it all is that people actually stick with Norton (those that don't know any better) and spend all their money/resources on that piece of *cough*

Nothing wrong with McAfee. imo For a large corporate its the best out there. I've been through all the major players and nothing comes close to the management server of mcafee

It's not difficult to use, and overall it's good at detecting viruses. However, it's a resource hog and slows down your computer quite a bit. It doesn't provide an instant message monitor, P2P scan or a registry startup scan.

Not a bad product, but at that price, you could get something much more effective and more value for money. McAfee received 6th place in the AntiVirus rankings 2007.

for a corporate the most important thing is managing your machines. if you only have one branch then you can pretty much use anything - avg/kaspersky/etc. With multiple branches to manage and to deploy pattern files, the only company that comes close with a decent manager is mcafee, especially if your using lots of low bandwidth lines for branches. the overhead nowdays of all the different AV packages is pretty much the same, but what I do like about mcafee viruscan 8.5 is that you can't stop/kill/remove AV even if you are a local admin on your machine. Also the rogue system allows you to pick up machines without AV - no other product does this.

No single commercial product can guarantee 100% safety so why waste your money?;)

Why spend money you ask? Because the detection rate and virus definitions of any respected product (BitDefender, NOD32, Kaspersky) are MUCH more powerful and effective than AVG Free or Ad Aware or any free product can offer you. The features are packed in commercial products. All AVG free can offer you is, well, real time protection and a daily update. (BitDefender updates every hour). With Lavasoft's pathetic excuse for an antispyware, you're far from protected. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Ad Aware SE Personal doesn't even offer real time protection against spyware. AVG's antispyware solution is only a 30day trial version, then real time protection gets disabled.

It's not just McAfee mate. ;)

I've been able to keep our machines virus free with just AVG free anti-virus and Lavasoft antispyware for over two years now;) Only started using the other products as after we got ADSL at work about a a year ago:)

Would anyone recommend BitDefender? (Yes, I know it's not free)

I am currently using it and have been using it for at least the past +-5 years. Have actually been using it since version 7. I am currently using Bitdefender Antivirus plus version 10. The Plus version is AV/ASPAM/FWALL. I have installed it at many customers. They also have a free version but it is Antivirus only. You can download the Pro version and is fully functional for 30 days.

Try it for free 30 days.

You poor thing. You think you're virus free because AVG doesn't pick up the viruses that are actually there. I'm not saying you're infected, I'm just saying that AVG is a crap program. ;)

lol i agree... i recently had a problem myself....so i had anti vir installed.. picked up badies.. cleaned them out.... but i didn't like the program so i had avg and nod32 installed..

So i ran scans with nod and avg... avg didnt pick up anything.. nod on the other hand picked up another 15 infected files which the other av's missed

Nod gets my vote :D.. Previous to all of this i was using kaspersky which to my amazement got disabled by some virus lol..:p
