Best ISP for online gaming

Hi all,

I'm going onto uncapped ADSL 1mbps at the end of the month, which ISP is the best for gaming? I play Bad Company 2 online, and if I end up with yet another ISP with latency issues I'm going to embrace the Amish religion!!

Better start growing that beard then, all ISP have latency issues, not one can gaurantee that perfect no latency dream so many yearn for :P
 
Web Africa seems to generally have the lowest latency, even their shaped accounts are super quick
 
It also depends on who hosts the game you want to play. I use axxess adsl lite(unshaped) at R19/gig + telkom local cap(after I've been capped)with route sentry. Alternatively, you could try using just the unshaped account while u play the game.

I would like to know who is the best ISP for gaming cause lately mweb is not living up to it's promises. I would really like to move away from them and I don't like afrihost so please don't recommend them.

MWEB making excuses for shaping gaming so why on earth would you go with them if they shape it. thats what a technician told me the other day. I mean gaming is a big part in my life and owuld rather have capped internet but if my gaming is perfect I will go for it.

NB. I play battlefield and call of duty games.
 
Just buy a few GB's from afrihost for gaming... use the uncapped account for downloading.
 
Thanks guys, I think this is the way to go, not sure who I'll use for the uncapped account yet but it sounds like this combination of the capped for gaming and the uncapped for downloads is the way forward....until this country gets with it. Thanks!

Do you think 1mb will be fine. I don't download that much. only a movie or 2 a month depends how many comes out. but Gaming is the main priority
 
Entirely depends on the game. Most rts/fps/mmo's can run exactly the same on a 384k line as it does on a 4mb/10mb line. You do get the odd game though that likes sending big packets where 40kb/s down // 16kb/s up just doesnt cut it and causes either lag or horrible loading times.
 
Telskommel - seems to work OK, no major issues.
Webafrica - the best latency, but really for gaming not worth it (works really well for a bit and then you get kicked out of server 'cos internet dies' for about 20 second or so, every so often)
Afrihost - the best , not quite the best latency, but stable at least.

The rest.. well have not tried them ... :)

Yes, WebAfrica used to be good with low latency in the past but lately that is simply not true anymore. Conveniently you don't even mention the current chaos that is going on.

People should just check out this thread on WA's forum where all the gamers are complaining on a daily basis about the erratic spikes, latency issues and more. It's been going on for almost a month now and WA does not seem to have a clue how to fix the problem. It also does not seem to be a real priority for them since their Status page indicates everything is fine.

I'll second that, but I do know that not only WA is affected.
 
I am on openweb gold uncapped, with a 1mb line and my ping is incredible. It could possibly have more to do with the fact that i am practically on the exchange but still. That said though, while the latency is great, downloading is not great.
