Howsit, Friend of mine is considering to upgrade. He is looking for a complete PC including screen, keaboard & mouse for not more than 20k. keep in mind he will probably be buying it through suppliers, so he has got a bit more to work with.
So far he has the following in mind:

Logitech G15 keabord
Coolermaster HAF932 chassis
Logitech G9 mouse

He is not really clued up on the rest, what would you guys recommend??

Total: R 12972.88

And with the extra budget add a 1TB hard drive.

Are you joking qwik, he can afford intel i7 and your telling him that the amd 940 is as good as i7 which again is another amd fanboi lie.

Download that pricelist and look at the 920 i7 prices. It amazes me whenever a thread like this involving good money you recommend amd which is kinda sad because your not objective at all :).

Ayways dude check that pricelist out, they have some very good prices on components.

All you think I'm a fanboy. Doesn't the possibility exist that I'm not, and everyone else is just Intel fanboys?

Not at all qwik if he said he only had 10k or 12k i would recommended the 920 from amd because the mobo's are cheaper and the cpu's are good if your on a budget.

You my friend are a solid fanboi and the sooner you understand that the sooner you can stop telling everyone who have big budgets to buy amd and the amd 940 is as good as i7.

one thing being a fanboi, another thing being totally biased and recommending inferior products to people who can afford the best.

So please post an i7 machine, taking into account the monitor,KB+M and case the op wants that stays in budget, that has a 48701gig or better plus at least 4gigs ram.

irrespective of the i7 performance, i would also not in good faith recommend it to anybody besides people who have a dire need to throw away money.

Go for a Q9550

This.

The Q9550 might be worth it though.

Yes, it costs more than the Phenom II 940, but performance is also slightly higher.

Why is i7 a waste of money, when did having a fast computer become a waste of money.

This guy could do encoding, movie editing or work related stuff so i fail to see how i7 is a waste of money.

Qwik i said go look at the computersonly pricelist, copy and pasted far to many pc systems and am sick of it to be honest.

Looks like mister needs to some research. I had this exact argument on another forum last week. Also a staunch Intel Fanboy.

There are cases where the q9450 beats the i7. Games mostly, but still.

If a R3000 processor can beat a R4000 processor at anything, is it really worth it?

I don't think spending 30% more on a cpu that is only sometimes better is worth it.

The Q9550 is a better buy if you wanna go the Intel route.

Show me proof of a q 9450 beating it please :).

Show me on what game it beat it because maybe the game is so old that you cannot get higher fps with any cpu over core 2 :p

I am guessing you have seen the i7 cpu's slaughter any other cpu in every test i have seen, would love to see this 9450 beating it :), also would love to the game.
