Hi guyssss, for those of you that havent been informed of it yet, i reckon its important that you know that bill limits are being phased out...

Phasing out has started as of November 1st and will be done by March 2011.

Jusssst putiing it out there...

Why?

This is the main nightmare with MTN, they bill you incorrectly ,or they allow you to ramp up 'n R20k bill in a week and now they want to remove the little preventative measures they had?

Or shall i ask, what exactly is the "bill limit" ? Is this that "hard cap" we always had? Isn't it illegal to allow me to go into debt more than i can afford [since post paid MTN = credit agreement] . I'm sure the NCA might have something to say about it?

Difference between the bill limit and the credit limit- bill limit you set up yourself, credit limit we allocate you upon vetting your contract, they cant legally take that away.

WRT bill limits, lets face it- it didnt always work properly, its a total headache to maintain...

So the legal limit is a waste of time?

And now I cannot ask for a 'cap' on my account either? I didn't think it was possible for MTN to get any more useless :(

I've been struggling for a week to get my company's 'corporate rep' to assist with a new contract and an upgrade. She's more useless than a call centre agent. Must have been promoted from management there to corporate accounts...

Gotta love SA service levels- siff wherever you go. Only reason I'm still with MTN- too much lus to change, for (arguably) no increase in service levels.

So in short: MTN is unable to get the concept of "bill limits" right, they admit their systems never worked to begin with, so instead they're just scrapping it altogether . Pretty sad excuse.

Agree. If they can't even implement bill limits, just imagine what else is wrong in there.....

I've been with MTN just over two years and tried using the bill limit twice - they screwed it up both times!

Agree with diabolus - obviously that have realized they can't do anything right and therefore scrapped the concept all together. I will be looking at Cell-C and 8ta in two years time when my contract is up for renewal again.

Dear MTNers,

Bill Limit Discontinuation

MTNSP has decided to discontinue offering Bill limits (“the service”) as a value-added service to new Subscribers and will subsequently phase out the service in stages as from 01st November 2010.

While we are committed in ensuring timeous delivery of all call data records, there are instances when unforeseen circumstances due to systems and/or technical difficulties may delay the delivery of the call data records. These circumstances might compromise the quality of the service we provide to our Customers and result in adversely affecting our core value in striving for service excellence.

Please note that all consumer customers will receive a notification with regards to the discontinuation of this service. The communication advises customers to visit their nearest MTNSP Service Centre, MTNSP Dealer Store, or dial 808 to deactivate the service from their Eppix account. Please take note that if the service has not been deactivated by the 31st of March 2011, MTNSP will subsequently deactivate the service on all Subscribers with this service. Further take note that the terms and conditions of this service will be applicable until such time that the service is terminated and/or discontinued.

Please note that MTNSP does offer Top Up Packages that can assist the customer in managing his/her spend. Please advise the customer about our Top Up Packages and assist accordingly with the requested package migration.

Regards

MTN Business
Operations

I have been trying to get a bill limit on my account, and finally I got this from them. WTF?!?!?

I highlighted the paragraph that makes me furious. Instead of fixing their system so that it actually works, they rather remove it as part of their "service excellence". Screw the fact that you can loose your phone, only realize it a few hours or even a day or so later, and by that time whoever stole it can rake up thousands of rands by phoning, buying stuff, goodness knows what else.

So much for "service excellence".

reviving an old thread here... but something i'm curious about that someone working for a cellular network might know.

how is it that with prepaid the network knows immediately when you are out of airtime or data bundle and blocks you, but with postpaid it doesn't know right away?

i can see a number of customer that will be furious after receiving that first over the limit bill without being aware of this.

Different kinda billing system altogether- as our main clientele actually form on the prepaid sector its right on the money, easier to work out seeing as theres no itemized billing.

....and yes- when i used to work in the call centre people used to phone in about the bill limit having kicked in late...used to call it an open a coke moment cause now you were in for the verbal walloping of your life...supies used to refuse to take the calls, simply telling agents to tell the client to refer to the form he signed for it to be activated...

+1

Anyhow... In terms of the new CPA... post paying should fall into the same category as a Credit Card. You are being advanced credit after all. As such... there should be a limit in play... and you should be able to, like with your Credit Card, set the limit if you choose. :( ?????

There is still a credit limit in place, that one covers us from overspending by the consumer.

i think this is a good move from MTN,this system has shocked many customers because it never worked properly,it's better to watch your own call costs than rely on an unreliable system

Couldnt agree more, if you wanna monitor your kids expenditure get them a topup.

What is that limit? R100k, R1mil? At what point does MTN decide that the user who spends an average of R300 per month does not actually want his 1000x more bill? :wtf:
