Binge Drinking! ~ Moose Calls Time!

I am at the stage were I can do with no booze for a week / a box a week (that is 4 bottles) / even kill off a box in one night.

You should not use a substance to alleviate your day to day challenges and their tolls - yet I do - many others do too.

It works for me but I know I am in control and not the other way round - I think that is the main problem people worry about. But really - if you need booze to function, is that so bad?

People need oxygen to survive - what does that make you? Human?

Not ashamed of any of those either.

In my case it started affecting my behavior and relationships. Negatively. And there were consequences.

I won't stop drinking but I realised I needed to take a step back for a bit, clear my body and clear my mind. Take a look at how I use alcohol.

Same here. I skipped a few nights this week, OMG, the boredom, the void not drinking created! I shall try to hit the gym next week. I joined the gym in October last year, I haven't been there once (applied online)!

Spot on. If you can do do a glass or 2 of wine a day, and maybe a bottle once a week then great. But a lot of people can't do balance. Or tolerance builds up over time and over 20 years of drinking that 1-2 per day becomes a bottle a day or more just to get the same level of relaxation.

This is my problem. If I open a bottle I always end up finishing it. So I balance it out by not drinking at all on weekdays.

I'm doing the weekends only thing as well, but I'm hoping you're referring to a bottle of wine and not a bottle of gin?

I hear what you okes are saying but bear two things in mind.

All the years that I have been drinking, I was doing some form of sport, up until 18 months ago I was swimming 45 minutes everyday, for the past two years I play badminton for at least forty minutes a day six days a week...... this has been my saving grace, I should have been rife with diabetes or some other lifestyle disease.....

Secondly this is day 38 of no booze and in all honesty, my head is clearer, I am more active and feel great..... the big thing is , I still braai, still socialize and badminton and bowling club and have no urge for suiping anymore....... I think it is my age that has actually caught up with me, let's say I am maturing.... :X3: Long overdue in the English HO's books.....

I never use to drink until 16, one day in the back of a school bus taking boarding school kids back to Namibia I was invited to the "cool" part of the bus, coz the leader "A" of the crowd was the son of family friends..... He enticed me to have my first drink..... they had stashed five liter pap sakke behind each seat..... thats where I first learnt to drink , ironically it was also the first time I got touch a woman (two years older than me) down stairs, being drunk she forced my hand into her panties and showed me what she wanted ...... Gee! this is all coming back to me and now I digress.....

The point I wanted to make, last night "A" was in town, he owns a mining services company and was in the store last night, I see him from time to time, My Gawd, his face looks fecked, like an 80 year old from all the drinking.,
My butchery manager kuiered with the gang last night, he looked fecked also this morning, tired and run down....

No Thanks! I have done my time, got the stories (busy writing these down) and want to have my last three decades to enjoy....
Same this side. Feel way better and also going strong. No alcholol or smokes anymore, but still go out with the same people. No need to get **** faced or smoke even when in an area where people all smoke besides me.

Big Test Coming up in a week, but my mind is strong, It's School holiday north of the border, next Monday, I will take the lad and his mate and go camping somewhere in SOuthern Namibia, including Ai Ais and a river lodge....

I usually go on absolute benders on such trips, but feel if get through it without a beer, then summit shall have been reached.....

Tis' day 41 and I dinnae feel like a dop!

You can do this with your hands tied behind your back. (hint) Naah you have got this. You already know how good it feels to remember events clearly - and these trips are running out. So enjoy every minute with your son, soon they will take holidays on their own. Use this time to get to know each other better.

Bliksem, tough one this , hard day at work and it is thirty six degrees here in the desert, the dry heat barreling in off the desert from the east........ my throat is parched, really parched and I have three guests coming over to the Bowling Club this evening for a braai........

An old German Friend and I always had an unwritten man rule, When the East Wind Blows, it's Ice Cold Draught on tap time....... Lucky for me, he moved to Oshikati...... and I am no longer obligated.....

Still going to be a stinker watching everyone else knocking back cold one's..... :sneaky:

How's the SO treating you these days? ;)

She be loving her man.......... chores lined up as long as me arm...... :sneaky:

Well it's day 46 and I am feeling awesome, however, that time of the year is apon me where I go camping, and in a mere forty eight hours I shall be traversing through a two track deserted Gamkap Canyon on my way to a blistering hot Ai-Ais...... A mate of mine will have departed a day before me taking our sons there,

This is going to be by far the most difficult temptation on my journey, as those of you that know, sitting in the bottom of that canyon, in that dry heat, looking up at those ancient cliffs holding an ice cold mug of freshly poured draught on tap in your hands is one of life's ultimate pleasures.....

:crying:

The English HO has told me to have a few pints, but remember moderation..... something I don't do....

Oh! The devil, the demons you tease us with.........

If you cannot do moderation - then you cannot do it. But you could limit how much you take with you. If you were going the moderation way - take one sixpack for the entire camp. And ration it over the period. But I get the feeling you are an all or nothing kind of person. So you will have no trouble doing the nothing. Enjoy the trip.

Still not planning to drink, mind still in the right place. The first three nights of camping, my tent shall be less than 200m away from a NWR Restaurant with a Windhoek Draught on Tap........ Already said to my camping partner that I shall be happy with a mug of sparkling water......

I am only bringing a case of sparkling water with this time, first time in 30 years of camping that I shall not be transporting any booze with..... :giggle:

Well there was a stark reminder to look after one's health...

At Work on the floor, walk past a customer I know, "Hey! T , lank laas vir jou gesien, was jy weg met verlof of wat?", I inquired in his traditional language

"My Flok Moose! Ek was amper dood.....", he stammered before continuing....." Ek was by die plaas om al my goed op te tel om terug Namibia te kom, to het n hartaanval oorgekom"

In the middle of the busy store he proceeded to lift up his shirt to expose a scar running between his breasts......

On further questioning the man, it was revealed that he eventually stopped smoking 14 days ago...... he stopped drinking yeArs ago........

He is considering a return to Whisky drinking...

Sitting at work, looking at a few photographs....

Now, this is where I shall be in a few short hours...... My mate that took the kids there yesterday has done a stirling job and really wants us to have a few cold one's ..........

Broadbanders, Today I shall in all honesty be having a few toots, not bender material, more like refreshment material....... The English HO has sanctioned this...... It has been 48 days on the wagon...... One day of celebration and back up the wagon tomorrow.....

I felt it is only right to inform you of my upcoming deceit....... :crying:

On a side note, heading off to a Fossil park outside Keetmanshoop in two days....looking forward to this...

There is nothing wrong with moderation. If you were religious - even the bible says there is a time for everything.
You have done amazingly. You are off that downward spiral. As long as you don't rejoin it - the odd drink here or there will probably be more beneficial than bad. For now - limit your access to it. Eventually it will become second nature to just enjoy rather than guzzle it down.
