Bird beats broadband

Thoughts on this :

1. The companies involved surely can look at creating a wireless network between the two points? This would involve careful planning, but I'm sure it can be done - and the cost of the equipment will pay itself back after a certain period of time.

2. They can probably get a leased-line circuit from Telkom, but that'll be very expensive.

3. Bird maintenance - Should Winston get sick, what will the vet (and medical) bills be like? Will it still be cheaper than line rental+adsl package?

4. What is Telkom's POV on this?

Pynee Chetty is too stupid to realise that the people were actually yanking his chain. now if he was clever, would have come up with a clever come back that would make people laugh, instead he has one of those usual read between the lines comments like "send questions via email" so that we can ignore your questions and pretend that we never got them because there was a problem with their server or something like that :-)

Too busy making excuses as to why we can get better speeds and larger caps for less money instead of realising that it is now time to stop ripping off the public.

Oh WAIT, thats exactly what ESKOM are doing, ripping us off so that they can give it away for free to the communities as it is their right as well as to subsurdise large corporations because their electricity usage is sky high and force the middle class or lack thereof to be forced to reduce their expenditure on electricity just to make ends meet.

LOL, both are government owned and both dont give a crap !
 
1) Homing pigeons cost thousands of rand.
2) This competition was set up with an arbitrary distance that would guarantee that the pigeon won. As some have stated, let's see winston beat any local broadband operator between major cities.
3) You can fill a donkey cart with 1 TB hard drives and beat SEACOM to Kenya. What does that prove?
3) This is a publicity stunt for a company no one has ever heard of.
4) ADSL only has a 512k upload speed which is not meant for GB uploads, but designed instead for internet downloads. At 4 mbps, 4GB would take <3 hrs which is close to the pigeon's time.
5) Let's see this test versus 3G, iBurst and Neotel too.
6) I'm having pigeon drumsticks for supper.
 
How would the Bird do in a race against Internet Solutions?

I wonder if this *FINANCIAL SERVICES* company bothered to encrypt their sd cards...

If I was their competition, I'd be standing outside their building with a pellet gun shooting every goddamn pigeon in site... a.) it would make for the mother of all packet loss when their pigeon ended up dead and b.) it would give me a nice supply of free SD cards that may contain some rather interesting financial data

Seriously though, a publicity stunt that proves nothing and gives us a good laugh, I might point out that IPoverDVDSONBACKOFTRUCK would kick the crap outta Winston, or virtually any data circuit anywhere in the world.

You could put a few hundred thousand dvds on the back of a truck and do a coupla hundred gigabit/second

Doesn't prove anything!
