Hey all! I have phoned vodacom numerous times on this issue with no success. My blackberry service keeps on disconnecting. I have a Torch. Whenever i put data services on and off, then on again, it connects for 10 seconds and disconnects again. I have tried everything. registering, battery pull, etc but to no avail. i have been having this problem for a week now. The service just cant seem to say connected and 3G is on all the time..... Any help?

Thanks!

temporary solution

Hi

I've come across this before. Get them to sort it out. In the meantime, force it to 2G only - this means you will only be on EDGE at best but at least you will get your emails. Note on 3G you will see the blackberry logo next to it-that means you on blackberry network - when it has disappeared, you will not get your emails even though it shows 3G.

This is my first line of support for troublesome customers with issues, turn to 2G only and re-check all services. @majikins advise is gospel on this. The issue is not in fact a BB related Service connectivity concern but a localized 3G issue the Carriers must resolve. Worst case and I have not seen this for ages is a firmware related problem with 3G. Next line of support, if not done, upgrade firmware on the handheld when unboxing. Get the latest firmware and take it from there.

I have a Torch with the latest firmware and I also experience problems with my Blackberry Service on Vodacom often.
Vodacom + BIS is not that great to begin with.

Still, hope you get it sorted out. I am waiting 3 more months then switching SPs.

Don't go MTN route.... unless signal is Grand in your day to day routes.
Vodacom are still the best way to go, but every carrier has their hangup's. Going elsewhere is going to yield a different headache.

I see horrendous customer cries for service when dealing with MTN, this is just about daily.

The underlying problem in this country is bandwidth concerns and the maintenance of these networks and cells. Vodacom at this point probably need to upgrade their BB APN to RIM.
I have fluctuating issues when browsing and usually get a better throughput on EDGE/GPRS ... 3G dies where I live, the common denominator being peak times after hours.

Vc's bis has been up to k@k for the last 2weeks or so. Keep on getting gsm every now and again. And its not my phone because been happening to the wife as well. Vodacom need to get their damn act together, FAST!

Do you perhaps have a old blackberry that you can test your sim in to see if it gives you the same problem? If you do, and it does give you the same prob, then it is network related and 082155 needs to investigate it. If it does not give you the same problem on the other blackberry, then it is most likely a phone issue and the phone needs to be handed in to Vodacare to be looked at.

Forgot to mention, last Thurs while on cpf patrol ALL the guys with bb's on VC were complaining about signal issues lately. But the guys on MTN experienced no such issues.

The last time I phoned VC to lodge a complaint about poor BIS coverage I was made to register and reboot. While doing that the lady from VC called me on my landline. After about 3mins, because I've gone back to OS5, the phone was still rebooting. The lady was absolutely convinced that there's a problem with my BB because it was taking 'so long' to reboot and there was nothing wrong with their network. I explained to her that I've got this phone for the past 9months and every single time I've rebooted it, from the very first time, its taken about 5mins to reboot but she didn't buy it. So if this continues much longer I'm not going to bother phoning VC I'll just switch my sp.

Not sure who this is directed at but - in my case it's definitely not the SIM. On another note - I didn't get the phone from any SP, so if I were to need repairs I'd likely take it straight back to RIM. I know many people on Vodacom BIS and they all complain about the service being down so much, or their speeds dropping, or not getting signal.
On the other hand I have an MTN phone too, and I never have signal trouble on that. People on MTN with BIS say they don't experience such regular problems. On the downside, (on average) MTN's BIS is R10 more expensive than Vodacom, and R12 more expensive than CellC. Everything on MTN seems to be more expensive (even their replacement SIMs which are a ridiculous R129) but I'm starting to wonder if it isn't worth it for the better uptime.

Nobody should choose their SP based on the level of service available. I've decided that all the SPs have equally crap customer service and support. It's down to network quality, uptime, cost, and range of options.

Just when I thought VC's bis could not get any worse... My download speed is not exceeding 25kb/s! And that's on 3G!!! Wanted to download a 60mb file today, got it done after four attempts! Trying to download somethng this evening, tried 3 times on my phone and 4 times on the wife's phone and still haven't been able to download it.

So let's hear from MTN and Cell C bis users please! Which should I switch to? I don't mind paying the R10 extra to MTN if I'm going to get a reliable BB service with decent speed.

My download speeds on MTN (2G) is fast,no issues there. On 3G it's even better.
Regarding stability i don't have any problems BIS always available.I have friends on Vodacom and they always seem to have problems.
