BlackBerry maker RIM struggling

I've never understood the BB hatred myself :/

I mean there are hundreds of horrible model phones out there - but the BB is targeted as the ultimate worst phone out *shrug*

Owners of other 'horrible' phones don't go on about how great it is :)

How does wi-fi work nowadays?
Over the GSM network or something?

I used to think it was limited to around an AP
 
Why would I ever need data when I am not around one of my APs ?

Then people can stop chattering away on BBM for 5minutes look up and notice the world around them and have a real conversation.

Apologies - thought perhaps the wifi standard had changed recently ....

Also never met anyone that uses zero data outside of his house. You as well just use your PC and unlimited internet at home and a Nokia for outside where the phone is useless - barring calls?

He's referring to the Wifi AP on his router at work and at home.

I understand what he's talking about ... I'm being sarcastic!

He doesn't use data on his phone because he's around his wi-fi AP connected to MWEB wireless. He doesn't use any data when away from the AP, as he's not a rep. Fair enough.

So he gets home and sits next to desktop - flanked by his tablet, netbook and laptop on either side - and uses data on his 3" cellphone which he uses. He leaves the AP and his phone becomes a bog standard phone?

Just odd - that's all ;) I mean when I get home to my wi-fi and unlimited, I use my 22" screen and THX speakers .... and use data on the move.

Lots of BB hate indeed... I love my Torch and use an iPhone 4 same too. (Use 2 phones).

Besides making calls on the iPhone, my BB remains in my hands all the time. I will upgrade to the 9900 BB as soon as my 2nd contract is up end of Dec. I wont mention just how much better my BB handles my business email than the iPhone.

All those hating on BB, well, I guess BB is useless to you when you dont have many friends. BBM with 5 contacts can't be much fun. And yeah sure, there's WhatApp... There's nothing cool about having WhatsApp. That's like having a Merc that's rebadged as Chinese car like GWM. Same thing, but not quite fulfilling. iPhone is just hype, and really not a flexible device. I HATE it's reliance on iTunes. It's my phone, I should be able to do anything I want on it.

Android is good, but everytime I look at those home screens, those phones look too busy. Android and iOS are really like the penis syndrome. My phone can do this, my phone can do that. BIG DEAL... I have my iPhone, and socially, it still lacks behind BB with regards to connecting me with my friends.

I think he makes some good points though ;) And there should be some credibilty since he's using the #1 or #2 phone (up to you) and can still compare.

My gripe with you haters is that let's assume Andoid is #1, iPhone #2 and BB #3 ... there's just no way there's this huge gap in features, looks, functions for the #3 phone to be hated.

Ok, I confess, have a R50 data bundle for the odd times that I need data and I am not covered by home/work/friends/family wifi.
At least I don't have a blackberry, and my bundle lasts two months.
 
I had Bold - and enjoyed it thoroughly. Got an iphone after that - and there is a big difference. The whole app experience blows the bb out of the water - and the OS also feels much fresher. I suspect the same would apply to Android. To me, a smartphone's utility value and experience revolves around the software and bb is lacking in that department.

It's not a bad phone, it has redeeming qualities like bbm (after the first few weeks I didn't miss it anymore though, but I understand the attraction), qwerty keyboard to some (again, after a few weeks I was completely at ease with a touch screen) and also email (although, again, with imap I'm 100% happy with the iphone email capabilities). I didn't care about a BIS.

I'd say the bb's are more of a stepping stone to real smartphones. But they are still decent phones and I recommend them to many of my tech illiterate friends who are upgrading from "15 years with Nokia".

One other thing, I don't agree with the assertion that blackberry users are in general rabid fanbois constantly trumpeting their great phones. They get way more flack than they deserve.
 
Like they say, if everyone's head is down and you're the only with your head up... It's not a sign of confidence, but that you don't have a Blackberry :-)

They are the reason why Vodacom and MTN network has been slow. This affects all other phones even if you do not use BlackBerry. Vodacom and MTN have 1Gbps connection to RIM Servers (for Blackberry Internet), however, RIM Cant afford to upgrade their servers and thats why we getting slow network.

Blackberry only sold 200 000 playbooks which is very sad. RIM will fail eventually.
