BlackBerry struggling

Shares of Research In Motion plummeted more than 13 percent after hours after the BlackBerry maker reported its net income and revenue declined in its fiscal second quarter.
 
Of course they're struggling, their devices are steaming piles of poo. Apologies, that wasn't a very nice thing to say, I didn't mean to insult poo :)

We all know that SA is a unique case where they're doing relatively well, and that's only because of BIS.

Remember when Ericsson was the only cell phone worth having? Then Nokia knocked it out of the ring with an awesome phone. Nokia is now going the way of the rhino. Pretty soon it will be joined by BB in the texhnology museum.
 
The only reason most people chose BB is due to BBM and BIS. These days you have Whatsapp which is platform independant, and much lower data costs. BB will have to do a lot to develop a sustainable revenue stream. I think they need to open BBM to other handsets very quickly, or as soon as one of your friends move away from BB, everyone will start using Whatsapp and eventually go away frmo BB.

Whoa there, let's not count our chickens before they are hatched. Windows 8 has not "re-invented" anything until it is actually available and in the market and selling. Ballmer just yesterday admitted Windows Phones are not selling as they have hoped, so again i would actually wait for Win8 to actually hit the market before making such statements.

Correction, Nokia didn't 'knock' Ericsson out but the latter was 'knocked out' by the fire in that Philips factory whic made them unable to compete or release phones in time. Nokia, on the other hand, decided at the time to source its chips from another manufacturer which made them stay operative.

As for RIM, they will still post less revenue in their Q3 results as they offer nothing but standard phones without any real competitive edge. BIS/BES was an edge back then but now it is just another facility.

QNX isn't bad, in fact, it is relatively good but it all depends on how it is implemented on their upcoming phones. I actually played on the platform on the Playbook and it really is a decent os.

Sadly, the consumers have moved on and RIM will find it hard to convince them to come back, they may get a few back but I doubt most will come back when they look at what Android has to offer, not forgetting iOS.

I'm still looking forward to a QNX 9900 though. If RIM launches a phone with the same build quality, dimensions, size and a better camera with auto-focus on the new platform then I'm buying it.
 
It doesn't surprise me. My wife upgraded from a BlackBerry curve 8520 to a BlackBerry 9780. Okay at least the internet is faster on 3G but OMG how frustrating it is to use the OS!!!! And the phone is slooooooowwwww. All I kept on saying was "what a ***** phone"

So yes, I agree SA are behind..they're used to bad performance from a phone, so they stick with BlackBerry.
 
IMO, manufacturers have overestimated the tablet market. I doubt there is a big market out there to consume the number of tablets being put out in the market. This is one of the reasons I doubt those who believe that tablets will kill the PC (includes note books) market. A few companies like HP and Sharp have already come to this realisation and are dropping the tablet line of business. Others who had plans to venture into this business are probably changing their minds.

Apple is the lucky one because of its fan boys who have the financial resources and are early adopters of technology. A few Android tablets will also find a niche among android fun boys. As for what happens next after the fun boys and a few others thirsty for tablets are fed remains to be seen.

Seriously, the BB phones might not have all the bells and whistles, but they definitely are not slow. Something is wrong with that phone, that is for sure.
 
It will only become harder for RIM. Nokia has shown it can reinvent itself and with profits from selling billions of low end Series40 devices it is now releasing brilliant new smart phones running anything from Meego to Windows and even a couple of Belle hotties.
 
I'm a BB-hater, but I think you guys are missing one important point - the business market. BIS and BES are huge in the business market, and most companies have cellphone policies that force people to use Blackberries. All communication going through the Blackberry APN is encrypted and highly secure, and this is very important to corporates.

Also, unlmited on-device browsing and unlimited access to PUSH email, at a fixed monthly cost, is a big selling point.

Corporates don't care too much about screen resolution, camera quality, how many apps the platform supports, etc. What they do care about is having fixed costs, and security, and obviously all the basics, which BB already covers.
 
S.A loves bb. Because of greedy companies like "VODACOM" and there expansive data. People have no choise but to use bb for its bis. Im sure if data prices drop to R59 a gb. It would be the end of bb in SA
