BlackBerry problems surface again (11 OCtober 2011)

Seriously people, there's just too much going wrong with/at RIM now. I won't recommend BB to anyone anymore. The ship needs a new owner before it sinks and disappears below the surface.

This sounds suspiciously like they are scrambling to get some kind of DR solution up and running and that they've properlly fubared their main DC in Slowe.

Oh please!
BB has stopped being a business phone for a number of years already.
Their market requirements has changed and they have not even caught on to the fact that their market requirements has changed.

Why do you think their profit and sales targets are down?

Who the hell cares what phone you have? When people tell you a Blackberry is better and you should get one, tell them to piss off or whatever you want. Don't bring your anger online and try to tell people how crap a Blackberry is? Seriously, how old are you? If you don't like a product then don't use it. By saying how crap a BB is and how good android is, you're doing basically exactly the same as the person who told you to get a BB.

I have a BB because it has all the features that I NEED. I know it's not near as good as most other phones, but it fills my needs. I don't want a ton of ****ty apps that I won't use anyway and for R60 a month, it's a steal for the amount of data I use. So each to his own.

+1

I have a bb and I have stopped suggesting the BB about 3 months into my contract...

Enterprise Management for Mobile (EMM)

Until other phone providers offer enterprise solutions, RIM will still have a place.
News Flash: Other phones do have enterprise management solutions.
No need to wait, you can dump your BB, BES, now.

A giyf of 'Enterprise Management for mobile' returns results for Android and iDevices:

"Motorola (Google) 3LM" http://www.eweek.com/c/a/IT-Management/Motorolas-3LM-Secures-Android-
Zenprise http://www.zenprise.com/
"Good for Enterprise" http://www.good.com/
Sybase http://www.sybase.com/mobilize/mobile-device-management

Even RIM has announced that they will extend BES to Android.

Existing Android and iDevices will adhere to MS-Exchange ActiveSync policies (such as PIN lock, Wipe, etc)

I've used BB for years and was a big fan. I realised however, especially when the RIM employee and ex-employee letters were published on BGR earlier in the year, that RIM is in deep trouble and that another 24 month BB contract would be too risky. I jumped ship and ended up with Android, and it's been a good decision, no regrets. I got used to the on-screen keyboard and WhatsCrapp and get on very nicely. Many many many more apps.

Would that also be why RIM is the only device endorsed by the USA gov, AUS gov and considered by the RUS gov for use? BB as a corp phone is perfect, Android and Iphone do not give enough corporate tools to manage them.

Ok.. For those that think a BB without BIS is useless, clearly your level of intelligence is eluding even you.

For those that think a 2-day, intermittent problem has never been experienced before, NOT even by, oh, I don't know, Vodacom, you need a wake up.

For those that say Whatsapp is the next BBM, seriously? You either need a stronger dose of medication or less of it! Whatsapp, if it would work properly would be a great app. Pity about the not working properly part though. Fix the issue with the SP's and then perhaps we can talk again..

My 2c from my BB.... Via Wifi... ;)

Oh LOL!
Are you citing the US government as an endorsement?
BAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Your reply has no bearing on my post.

How does it have no bearing?

RIM may have expanded their market share by far into the consumer market but at heart it is still a very corporate phone, with the server side services and security to prove it.

What can a BB without BIS do that any other phone can't?

BIS/BES is a prerequisite to turn a BB dump phone into a BB mail phone.
A BB will only do dump phone stuff without paying for BIS/BES.

Thats the point... the device and the service go together. I wouldn't get the device without the service.... otherwise I would have just got a cheep a$$ nokia/htc

Also the service has been good, so besides 2 days of downtime... its been super reliable and cost effective.

Don't know. But install Opera Mini on your BB and browse without the need for BIS. It uses your operator's direct VPN internet access.

You still need to pay for BIS to use Opera Mini!
Without BIS/BES a BB can't access the internet
Yes - I tried to access the internet without BIS - no go.
Yes - I owned a BB (don't tell anyone ;-))
