Blackberry Storm or Bold???

A snippet from BGR about the to be released BB "Tour" ...

"We went through this with the Storm review and we told most of you to wait for the 9630. Most of you didn’t listen and you’re bitching everyday about your Storm. It’s ok, we’re here to help. Basically, to you know, not beat around the bush. Verizon + 9630 = the best BlackBerry experience on the planet. This is the phone you’ve been waiting for. Smash those Storms, donate them to charity, sell them on eBay or give them to your significant others you want to slowly and cruelly torture. This is it as far as Verizon goes. We said the Storm was the best phone on Verizon (hey, everything is relative, ok?) and this obviously takes it a step further. In its complete buggy state probably more than 3-4 months away from release, this is going to be the big seller on Verizon when it launches. There’s not a single person who wouldn’t want this phone. Young, old, black, white, rich, poor, disabled, not disab… never mind.

RIM and Verizon, congrats. This will seriously screw with AT&T’s BlackBerry customers and poach more than a few. Just remember Wi-Fi is a friend and there are people that need Wi-Fi rather than want it.

We can’t wait until the 9630 launches, it’s going to be a great all around phone."

What was the point of that, it was mostly an ad for verizon rather than saying anything about the tour and most South africans don't need wifi

I must agree, the Storm is only good for those wanting to play with the software, and doing hacks and things. I find it fun, and have thus made mine all fast and lekker with my own custom themes and own OS.
I wont recommend the storm to anyone no in the play mood.
On the other hand, with the upcoming 5.0, things will change and stabilize, which is normal for a new product of this sort.

And yes, the only place wifi is useful is on the couch, but then, BIS solves the cost issue anyways.

If you "feel" bold, go bold. seriously, the heart is the better decision maker, and at the end, one loves what one has :)

Hi ,

I checked out both phones for a few days and my opinion is that the Bold is better. The storm screen is about the only nice thing , the touch pad is not easy to use and the accelerometer is lousy. Typing is also difficult.

The Bold is fantastic except maybe the camera but its difficult to fault it otherwise , word to the wise though , u might want to switch off 3G when not using it , it chows the battery life.

Now the bolter - the best one I saw so far is the 8900 !! No 3G is the only fault I can find on it and with Rim's compression u wont miss it for browsing anyway. Also has a bigger memory capacity.

Just my 2 zim dollars :)

Sparticus you obviously didnt read what I said. Go to crackberry forums first, do your homework. ;)
The Storm is great once its off the lousy vodacom 19voetsek firmware...

My own Storm is on .113 and I have great battery life, days in fact of regular use. No lag on accelerometer and no lag on the keyboard. It get even better with later versions, and with the official release of .14x (in USA anyway), I am upgrading my own this weekend. A colleague did his, and its beautifull. But if you like the Bold great, a BB is a BB is a BB, just don't knock what you haven't tried ;)

Haha, I love it how guys get so touchy about comments on their phones ;)

Not touchy at all actually, I have lots of devices, I dont favour any above the rest.
Its just a fact, the stock .78 on vodacom's Storms are really creating a bad impression of the device. The hardware is till way ahead of the OS. Call it touchy, I call ignorance on people who tend to criticize a point they havent explored fully yet ;)
Whatever makes you feel good about yourself when you go home I suppose :P

Anyway, where was I touchy? My whole post was informational.... shame...

Hi ,

No way am I knocking it , just gave my opinion. Thanks for the info though.

Sorry no offence intended, was just defending my position, My original reply did have the "follow your heart" in it, which was meant well until i was attacked with a spiked dildo. :)

Hi Guys,

How is the 8900’s internet performance without the 3G? How is the GPS performance? I like the look of the phone and I like the features as well as the price tag.

I’m looking for a phone that I can use to get my quick fix of surfing every now and again when I’m away from my computer. Check news24, emails, forums or submit superbru picks. If I want to start downloading big apps I can do it through my wi-fi at home.

So all and all, is the non 3g 8900 sufficient for day to day internet browsing?

The 8900's are sexy.
Not sure about the performance, but the new upcoming 5.0 OS which is being released seems fast, from the leaks I have seen so far. You should really get more info on crackberry's forums, not that I am plugging it, its just bb dedicated

Undecided

Hi guys,

I've been following this thread for a while, & am also quite undecided between the Storm & Bold. Reviews & sales personnel seem to all be in favour of the Bold. However even with this I still feel like giving the Storm a chance, with the hope that the new o.s will overcome all bugs etc.

Can someone who has had the privelage of using both the phones perhaps do a practical Pros & Cons/comparison of each model (something specific to SA as reviews online relate mainly to the "us of a"). Maybe this will help us out.

Btw have the iPhone 3G & its awesome after the last software upgrade, so touch screen's not a major issue for me, even though the Storms interface is quite different.

iPhone's touch screen is one of the best I have used so far.

Storm's touch screen has to be pressed for phone to detect the key input, so seems like bit of a nuissance to type fast on Storm compared to Bold.

STILL UNDECIDED... perhaps wait for all the new firmware to be released or new BB to come out. Still happy with my iPhone 3G at the moment other then 3G costs me an arm and a leg.

The click screen is a damn blessing. I type way faster on that than any ****ty hover-error prone screen. Ive worked on both the bold and storm, and they aren't comparable. For heavy business and tool orientated use, the Bold wins, but I went for a storm, took a chance, realized the default vodacom .78 OS sucks, upgraded .141 and my storm is now my security blanket :)

Iphones piss me off, and so does the "must have one to fit in" market it follows...

Hi , Just one thing you lose your warrenty if you load a OS not backed by the local supplier even if it is pushed out by RIM. Guess its very frustrating for the technically minded out there as they are aware of a better OS but its not yet been pushed by the local supplier.Nothing wrong with doing it just wanted to point that out.

Sparticus correct.
I should mentioned it sorry.
I took the chance, I guess if I ever need support Ill have to roll back to .78 which comes with the phone/cd's

Although I doubt it, I think most of us on this forum are in a position to assist customer care, and not the other way around :)

I've decided to just jump in and go for the storm on vodacom. Anyone know of we in RSA also get a 8GB memory card in the box?

.141 looks good for acceptance.....;)

One thing:

If you get a mail with a .jpg attachment and you select 'Open Attachment', does it prompt you to save the file first?
