BlackBerry vs Google Android vs Apple IOS

About five months ago my daughter moved up from a BlackBerry to a Samsung Galaxy S because of the Android coolness factor. Her dad has the S2 and she wanted the same. This past weekend she begged me to get her a BlackBerry again. She's done the Android thing and is bored with it and now want to go back to BlackBerry BBM to do the stuff she actually needs. My other daughter said she will never move away from BlackBerry.

RIM do have serious problems but the teenagers love their BlackBerrys. That's for sure. Most don't look at phones the way we geeks do. Most people want the simplicity and cheap social interaction strengths of the BlackBerry.
Everybody these days is on bbm, it takes forever for my whatapp contact to even respond to my messages it is very annoying.

Sorry. Your terrible use of the english language indicated that you were talking about the A9 core, rather than ARM themselves.

Thats alright, no worries.
I said "The A9? From ARM Holdings? The one Apple co-created?"
"The one Apple co-created" was referring the to the sentence immediate preceding it

Apple could make 12 models but they don't they only currently produce 3 (yes the 3GS is still in production)

Are all three models currently available in SOUTH AFRICA ? And are they available at the local CNA for R 599 like the others are ?

Well, I think that is exactly the point. Apple would never want or allow their phones to be sold in a CNA. That's part off the race to the bottom that they want no part of

Just had a thought(might be a crap one but anyway). If people are staying with BB because of cost(data), then wouldn't it make sense that the BB users won't upgrade as often as IPhone users(for instance) as this would be an unnecessary expense if free internet and BBM is all that is needed. That would mean that BB sales would eventually drop?

Yes, you are correct. It is a bad one! Phones die and need replacing. People who enjoy the benefits of BIS tell their friends who could potentialy increase sales if they percieve the same value. At the end of the day people don't just buy a phone. Most of them examine the benefit of the contract with the phone for a 2yr period. If performance is important, they will get a high end phone and if cheap data is key they will probably get a BB.

Personally I believe that the previous BB (before IOS7) were outdated in their own time. Let's see how the new ones perform.

Well its a fact the Apple makes more net profit per phone, than some co's make in gross profit on Android. Apple sells more than their phone, but the name, that they've spent billions marketing.

On the BB issue, unlimted data isnt BB's only trump card, it's still their email service and BBM nad flexibility. My BB is still far better for emailing than my iPhone. The stupid iphone won't even let you upload multiple attachments without having to download a program for it, and take ages to send a simple email.

Apple is just an inflexible phone, period. If they released a phone for the youth, IT WOULD NEVER SELL in current form. The youth Bluetooth each other songs, and download them from the net straight to their phones. Can you do that with an idevice? Hell no!! Those are some of the things that keep people away from Apple, and the reason why I wont buy another iPhone again.

BBM is still RIM's biggest trump card, I wish they would realise this. WhatsApp is BULL, period. As much as Apple users like to attach prestige to having their iPhones, so do BB users with regards to BBM. A BBM pin has become more than that, it's almost like an identity. Personally, I ignore WhatsApp and SMS's. If you dont have a Blackberry, then rather call me, as I really regards SMS as ancient, and WhatsApp an outright joke. I have 200 BBM contacts. Much like me, they've all kept their BB's and use them as a mistress, rather than a main phone. If BB could capitalise on BBM, then they'll have one thing other co's like Nokia didnt, a continued relevance in people's lives.

That could possibly be they're saving grace. People have not forgotten and put away they BB's like they did Nokia. How ever small the role may be, BB has still got relevance in many people's lives, which can pave the way for a great come back for them.

That said, I'm eagerly awaiting my BB Torch 9810... Can't wait!

Dude iPhone is comparably priced with high end Android phones, mind I remind you that Android is supposed to be free. It generally costs Apple less to build an iPhone than its competitors, that's the only price advantage.

pimpassdaddy, good points. Kids/teenagers share stuff all the time. iPhone is no good for this. The SOPA lot loves this. Kids don't.

Yea well if you use manufacturers likes foxconn who's employee's are suicidal from terrible work conditions and extremely low wages, obviously you are going to make a profit.Goooo APPLE!

A9? From ARM Holdings? The one Apple co-created? Enjoy :-)

It makes no difference.

To use an analogy -

Adrian Newey designed or helped to develop the F1 championship winning Mclarens in the 90's. Does this mean that eventhough he now works for RBR that he has any relevance to the Mclaren 2012? No he doesn't just as apple is not responsible for the A9.

It is a weak example but what I actually implied was that the A9 is not a very powerful(compared to the top tablet processors) unit. But it is still able to run the Android 4.0 OS. Even the Infotmic range will be running Android 4.0 in 2 months time.

er...I didn't say that Apple co-created the A9 with ARM. I'm saying ARM *was* Apple (And Acorn)

Damn Apple fanboys guess they don't know sites like Youtube will be struggling ideas had Flash not existed.

Huh? Youtube uses mp4 just fine.
Flash had a use many years ago. But the need it fulfilled was replaced many years ago as well

Let me guess you never used a BBM?

Hell dont take my word for it, just ask the people if they are willing to pay for BB on other phones. Also what you can do to spice it up is make your app use your BIS network to fall under that agreement.

IE: build on what you have now, while you still have it in place.

I have recently moved across to a BB and BBM is in a different league to these other systems. I would also propose that RIM sell BBM and their mail system as a service on other devices. I setup my mail and don't have to worry about syncing with my PC or anything like that. just get a ping when anything arrives, mail, message, photo on BBM, etc.

I have a BB Torch and enjoyed BBM. Then my BB packed up and I got a SGS2 while waiting for my BB to be repaired (eventually got a new replacement unit from MTN). During that period I started using WhatsApp and will never return to BBM or my Torch again. I can now message all my mates with iPhones, BB, Nokia and Android handsets. The Android Marketplace is only second to the Apple Appstore but is catching up, and the SGS2 hardware is ahead of anything else.

At the 2011 MyBB conference some of the cellular providers stated that they will offer bundled data like the BB for Android and iPhone in 2012... that will spell the end of the BB dominance in SA.

RIM should know that Vodascum's throttling of the speeds makes blackberry browsing unbearable. You wait 2 minutes for a facebook page to load, why don't they just cut off the people who misuse the service?

Having a Blackberry BIS on a vodacom network was never a pleasure, I'm using Cell C now.

Now how can we trust vodacom stats when they lie to us saying that they are not throtling their services and yet they do. I hate liars.

Looking at the way vodacom throttles people on BIS I rather just have cheaper data bundles
