BlackBerry Z30 confirmed for SA

Good luck ...
Blackberry will need to compete on price (< R300 contracts) or bring out a piece of kit that absolutely blows your mind if they wish to regain market share.

I am not going to join blackberry family ever again... Once they canned BIS on their new OS I decided to part ways with BlackBerry immediately.

Hopefully it will be a successful seller in South Africa but time wll tell.

+1

If they fail to do this they will fail in the hardware side of things, they may still do well if they can monetize the soon to be released multi platform BBM.

Right now they are trying to sell mid range phones at high end prices.

They will need to undercut the competition. Tough world it is out there...

Buying an appliance from a dying company? Now that would be a splendid idea. Someone should have a good look at the fine print in the VC and CC contracts to see what will happen if everything at BB goes belly up.

No need, they've been bought over for 4,7 billion dollars and will be private. The private investor has a five year plan to make Blackberry relevant again.

Lets hope being competitive is in that plan.Thats what they desperately need especially in pricing.

That's not correct.
Only a letter of intent has been signed and it is not a binding acquisition agreement.
Fairfax still need to source financing for the deal to go forward.

Yes, but they already own 10%. The preliminary go-private deal are only applicable to 6 weeks due to diligence, BlackBerry can still shop around in this time, but should they get another buyer by 4th November they will have to dig up $150 million due to breakup. I believe that the consortium already have the available capital to purchase the other 90%, due to comments and statements made by Prem Wanda.

All I want to know are who’s the other members in the consortium? Wanda only made known that they are not strategic and technology orientated entities.

Bigger risk in my books. Nothing to stop a private owner from suddenly changing tack, chopping the company up and telling current customers to shove it.
