Thanks for the answers to my last question. Working well...now for another.

Recently installed ADSL using a Linksys Wireless Gateway. I connect my lap top wirelessly to Gateway. However when I try to connect to the internet the first time, I get a "Dial-up Connection Confirmation Window" even though my laptop is connected wirelessly to the gateway. When I cancel the dial-up, then my laptop connects to the internet via my gateway. How can I stop the Dial-up window from appearing?

Help please....

go to network connections, under broadband right click on the ISP and go to properties (not the LAN connection). go to options and under "dialing options" make sure that "prompt for name, password etc" is not checked.

Go to IE -> Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections -> Enable "Never dial a connection" on the dialup connection.

Highflyer_GP : that'll just prevent the window from displaying. The connection will still be established (assuming it can be.)

Franna : that'll prevent IE (and all apps that use the IE settings for an internet connection) from ever prompting for a dial-up connection.

Theoretically (and I say that because I've seen this work with varying degrees of failure), the correct procedure for IE and its chums is :

Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Connections -> Dial whenever a network connection is not present.

The theory behind the above allows IE to prompt for a dial-up connection only if a network connection (wired or wireless) is not detected. Other apps may still prompt for a dial-up connection. Investigate those apps individually to (try) turn it off.

luck

Thanks again

Will try out the suggestions and let you know which one works for me...

I recommend the "never dial a connection". You can always go into dial-up networking and connect manually, however, if you set it to "whenever a network connection isn't present", then each time it you either mistype an address (i.e. www.google.vom), or a server is down, then it's going to prompt you to connect, which I find *terribly* annoying.

Thanks Again Everyone

Used

Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Connections -> Never dial a connection

That fixed the problem.

Using

Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Connections -> Dial whenever a network connection is not present

Did not

Thanks again.
