Blood Pressure...

LPT : Do walk and excercise while you still are mobile and have the means to.

Once you have a stroke (or other complications due to high BP) you will most likely not be able to walk around and do excercises.

and modify the diet. Must change the diet

Oh yes, the most important aspect of that.

Went a whole month without any take-aways. Good going, just have to keep it up. Not easy, especially when you're hungry after work and want something to eat.

Eat fruit when you get home. Should keep you good to go till supper is ready.

150/90. Doctor picked it up yesterday when I went for a stomach bug.

WTF. I hope it is related to being sick.

I know my diet is fairly bad at the moment and I'm about 20kg overweight. Hope I can get this under control without medication.

Diagnosed with High BP in May 2021. Always had spot on BP before that. 140/100 at that time. Started 1x Zartan daily and it steadily came down. In same time started doing more exercises as I am overweight and sit all day everyday for work. Also started drinking 1.5l water per day and drinking alcohol way less. Went for checkup last week BP 110/80. Dr changed Zartan to 0.5 per day. Cholesterol was down 1.25. So things are looking up. Did not really change my diet, just the wine.... My guess is that more water and less wine (added to the medication) did the magic for me. Recently started exercising consistently so I hope weight will come down and that will lead to BP normalising to such an extend that no medication is required.

Was your doctor called Dr van Lykwagen by any chance?

mate that BP is not so high. i recently (of you check side effects thread) had alot going on.
Prexum is a good med but usually the doc checks why it has gone up (could be Cholestrol) and would advise and prescribe something for it.

alone BP tablets work, but if there is no prev history its a test and trail basis.

90 on diastolic readings are okayish depending on your lifestyle. start worrying when you hit high 90s and the systolic (top) is 170. if it goes up and down throughout the day its your dieet so would look into that. if your a smoker 90 is fine...

what to be on the lookout for is systolic above 160 and diastolic above 100 and in some cases heartbeat above 110 resting rate.

i have Hypertension and have been placed on various meds and made soms chronic that is working, my highest BP was 199/170 heartbeat 126. that was heart attack / hypertensive crisis.
you also get Hypotension, thats when its too low like 110/60 and under...thats also very dangerous.

the top value (systolic) would usually be high if ur sick or if you eat alot of red meat or drink coffee alot. the bottom (diastolic) is the killer...that is the body showing you something is not right and you should see a doc.

please take it easy as i had both of the killers in 2 days...day 1 minor stroke, day 2 mild heart attack and now suffering from unstable angina, chronic hypertension, and few other prognoses.

and do not take blood thinners unless your doctor says you must, i was taken off due to the fact that if my angina ruptures or i get another heart attack you cannot coagulate and you will bleed out unable to stop it in time.

best is to get a good doc that cares about your well being that you can give previous historical med records to and let him treat you pill for pill not just a handfull and say be on your merry way.

For reducing BP, anyone here tried to include flaxseeds in their diet? I came across this on Bob & Brad (Of course, they are not experts on this as they are physios). I am starting with 2 Tbsp a day now (mostly with cereal + milk) and will see if there is any difference after a month or so.

p.s. I am also trying to reduce weight simultaneously so that will probably reduce BP more than flaxseed.

Almost same here. Get on weight loss thread and let us motivate each other. :)

It'll help but flaxseed is more for cholesterol support. Dont expect it to do much like a medication though. Have you done a lipid profile ? I think start with a base medical so you know where to approach the problem

Consider looking into methods to drop IGF-1. Its very difficult to do but that would be your best bet to solve issues without meds. Also you can do it intensely if you can manage the lifestyle then revert back to a balanced diet afterwards.

Couple of days now with strict clean eating (plant based & little bit of fish) and adding flaxseed, apply cider vinegar, cayenne pepper, turmeric, and hawthorn root to my diet.

Started cardio again as well for 30 minutes a day instead of just doing my 2 hour bike rides twice a weekend.

Doctor also prescribed Adloc 5mg to take once a day.

Throughout the weekend I was at 150/135 +- which is a hypertensive crisis. Scared me shitless.
Was still reading this on Monday night.

Back to normal from last night according to my new bp monitor. Read at 125/77 this morning.

I plan on maintaining the diet and exercise for the next 3 months to shed the weight and get off the meds. 6 months ago I was perfectly healthy in terms of BP, blood sugar, and cholesterol. Will be back there again.

The strangest thing has happened to me,
I originally had BP of 160/108 and was put onto meds.
Tareg 80, then had to go up to 160 then back to 80 and now my BP has dropped even more.
I only have stopped eating bread / wheat etc and hardly have dairy.
I am worried about this though and my GP said to stop all meds immediately as my BP went down to 104/74
Its now 2 days and my BP is hovering around 105 -118 all over 60-75
Got a new bluetooth monitor and its definitely right.
I am not complaining but I am very puzzled

be careful because 150/135 is heart attack zone and damage to organs

The good news is a week later and i’m averaging 135/78 now.

Adjusting to the new diet and 5mg Adlock at night. Hope that the pill is a temp fix

I just dont know what is going on with me, 104 -109 over 60-75 from someone who has dangerously high BP.
I have stopped all meds now and am panicking - it doesnt make sense that someone can go from such high levels to such low levels, doc cant work it out, going to see a specialist physician end of month, so sick and tired of feeling sick and tired

All of the best!

What have changed in your life?
Changed jobs?
Less stress?
Avoiding a specific thing (like coffee or nicotine?)
Sleeping better and longer?
Switched off the 5G mast next to your house?

And the most important - don't panic. It'll make things worse.
