Bluetooth speaker advice - gift for techy boyfriend

I want to get my boyfriend a new Bluetooth speaker for his birthday. He is a pretty techy guy and I just dont know enough to make a decision without advice. He has mentioned he likes this site before so I figured it would be good to ask here. I'd like to surprise him.

-It has to be Bluetooth and portable
-Good sound quality and loud enough for outdoor group settings, like a braai or camps
-Not sure about price yet, but maybe willing to splurge if it's really worth it and makes a big difference

The JBL range is great if you are on a higher budget.. otherwise, at the price point, the Xiaomi one is really difficult to beat in terms of sound quality..

Dixon, Polaroid, volkano, china town specials etc, are all a big no-no.. poo poo sound, despite what anyone will tell you..
