BMW 320i vs 320D: your choice?

Congrats guys!

Been given the facelift 320i M sport with 15k km on the clock to drive while BMW fixes my car and it's day 3 now and I've fallen so in love with it I'm gonna be so depro to get my A1 back haha

Phew, that's a nice little upgrade lol. There really is just something special about BMW, it's definitely not just marketing (like it is with some other car brands).
 
Insurance inspection done, must still get a tracker fitted. Will probably do that next week.

Had time to test to sport mode on the highway, the diesel pulls like a boss!!

Awesome. Try get a Skytrax unit fitted, just ask Tracker for the discounted R199 premium (free installation over a 36 month contract). It's so worth it! You can then view your car's location on the Tracker mobile app, or website, or even via sms.

ROFL, I had one but I shaved it off this morning :D My wife says I now smell posh because the leather seats have a distinctive BMW smell, so maybe that's even better. Buy a BMW, smell better :D

Congratulations Foxhound and GTX on your new babies!
May I just request that you guys familiarise yourselves with the stalk on the left of your steering wheel known as the INDICATOR, you push it up if you want to turn right or change to the right Lane, and push Down for left.

Also, please leave a car length between you and the car in front of you, I assume your cars have parking sensors you can possibly activate these just to get an idea of how far back you should stay.

Hopefully one day I can join the BMW Group, it would probably be with a BMW sub brand though, good ol' MINI, I am eyeing a John Cooper Works in my future.

Lol thanks for the advice Tsepz, but not necessary for me. The nice part about not always being a BMW driver (my mommy didn't give me one as soon as I got my driver's licence) is that I actually know how to drive, so no issues with either indicating or following distance :P

Ok cool, here goes.

2013 BMW F30 320i Luxury Line owner's review (one week on):

Likes:
- Looks: The look of the car. The sharp creases of the F30 and awesome taillights make this car stand out in a parking lot (the dark mineral grey colour is good). The Luxury Line also adds really nice chrome touches (+those rims) which make the car stand out a bit more.
- Acceleration: The 320i's twin turbo combines well with the auto box. There is plenty of speed for safe overtaking and lane changing in Gauteng, and you aren't embarrassed at any red light (like I used to be in my poor nat as 1.4 hatch). Sometimes the box will pause a bit in comfort mode before kicking down, but that's all part of refining the drive a bit (no issues in sport mode).
- Handling: this car feels solid in town and *planted* in bends (again my frame of reference is a decidedly squishy Citroen hatch lol). The rear drive is also part of that I think, but you never feel any sideways pull going into a bend at speed.

Dislikes:
- Some cheap interior trim: A Mercedes-Benz C-Class trumps this, I won't lie. The finishes look good to the eye, but it doesn't take long to find some harder plastics.
- The runflat tyres: These feel a bit harder than the softer tyres I'm used to. The suspension is beautiful and soaks up any bumps, but you still get a rumble on some of our bad road surfaces.
- The stock halogen headlights: they seem a bit weak. They were never going to be as bright as xenons, but I'm still getting my car booked into the workshop next week just so they can check the intensity and alignment (the right light seems a bit lower than the left - maybe by design?) I might try getting stronger bulbs if possible.

Ok, two bonus points I have to add now.

Likes:
- Space: The 3 Series has ample space front, back and boot. It's really great for travelling with a few people long distances.

Dislikes:
Fuel consumption: This is where I wish I had the 320D rather. In pure stop/start driving in city at low speeds over short distances, the 320i gargles fuel (even in EcoPro mode). I've gotten 15l/100km quite easily like this, without even driving aggressively. On the highways it is much better: I've averaged 6.5l/100km, which is much better. I still need a proper road trip to Durban to test.
