BMW 320i vs 320D: your choice?

If new or under motor plan, 320D

New, yeah right lol. The prices on new Beemers are eyewatering. You basically end up having to take one of their massive residual options that gets you into a new one ever three years, but you never own it. That's unless you have *serious* money to your name.

The diesels are an absolute pleasure to drive in town and on the open road, and the lower consumption is more of a bonus than you think lol.... I did a lot of driving in my sister's E90 320D

I recently had the newish (2014) 116i on loan for a week, and it was slow (even in Sport), and very heavy on juice.... I then had an A3 on loan for a week, it too was kinda slow, but it was using HALF that of the 116i - and I couldn't believe how far I got on R150 diesel (I wasn't expecting to have it very long) but I did 140km and then still had 100km to go according to the computer and hadn't hit reserve, the 116i - I used R300 for 260km - and that was always driving in eco pro with a sedate foot.... I know I'm not comparing apples with apples but it was such a pleasure not to have your usual driving habits impeded by your fuel consumption.

Sad but true!

But the 320D is an awesome machine. I'd take it over a 320i any day, having driven both.

320d. Had a 320i. Not a bad car but can't touch the added torque or improved consumption of the 320d.

Quick question for BMW drivers. Don't flame me. This is not the first time I've noticed this, but over the weekend a BMW driver in a quite fancy cabriolet, turned left entering a circle. Left indicator on, unexpected, but nice to see. He then turned right. Left indicator still on. He went straight for a bit then turned right again. Left indicator still on. Like I said, I've noticed this with other BMW's where the indicator stays on, no matter what the driver does, or what direction they're going. And by on, I mean, blinking.

In my car, as soon as I turn the steering wheel back, the indicator clicks off automatically. So, is that a mechanical fault, or is the car in such a shock that the indicator was used, that it's stuck in a loop?

You don't indicate to turn left onto a circle? In this country you can only go left when entering a circle.

I'll double check for you, but I think it might be because he never actually turned in the direction that he's indicating. Screws with the mechanism.

It is a bit weird. When I turn my steering wheel back, at about 10 or 2 o clock (i think), it clicks off the indicator. I've seen it on one or 2 Audi's as well, where the indicator just stays on.

Don't they also have harder suspension? I don't want that lol, I want something soft and comfy.

No, there is a standard suspension unless otherwise specified.
The MPSORT passive suspension is an option from factory.
The MSPORT active/dynamic suspension is also a factory option

Yeah but that's my question. When people talk about BMW 320D MSPORT, does that mean it comes with the suspension or just a bodykit and the suspension is a separate package?

Also, am I correct in assuming that the MSPORT passive suspension will be harder than the standard suspension? I'm guessing the MSPORT active suspension will have a comfort setting, but again ... how does that comfort setting compare in stiffness to the standard suspension?

Pretty tricky questions to answer unless you're a motor dealer or work for BMW, I know.

320D - Fuel economy for the power that you get is great!

320i is a slouch.

Comfort and Economy mode suspension is nice and soft. Sport and sport+ mode suspension and steering stiffens up. Don't know the passive MSPORT suspension.
