Board Games

Anyone play Marvel Champions: The Card Game. It's a living card game. Fantasy Flight Games are the maker.

I have but I prefer DC Deck builder even though the ratings on BGG say the complete opposite, if you get the chance give it a go.

A game that's always gotten my interest is China Town but it's an old game and out of print. So finding a copy that doesn't involve robbing a bank or selling your soul is near impossible. The bartering aspect gets my interest. Anything similar that can be suggested?
Have you tried Sheriff of Nottingham?

Yesterday I got a great surprise my SO got Underwater cities and Mycity.

Very excited about Underwater Cities and intrigued by Mycity.

That's a really good price for an amazing game. I paid 2.5 for it on Black Friday 2 years ago. By far one of our most favourite games

Anyone with an Asobrain.com account?

Its an unlicensed catan / carcassonne / few others gaming platform running in java. It worked really well. I had an account back in 2008 but sadly it got deleted due to inactivity. Its completely free but the registration has a time delay and some restrictions unless you get an invite. Oh and you cant register with a free gmail or hotmail etc account (to prevent banned players from returning).

Board games are just stupid expensive. Would like to have some but can't justify the prices the ask for these things.
I tend to agree but at the same time, if you think how easy it is to spend R500+ on "once off" entertainment for a family (eg. Movies, take-out, putt putt, etc) and consider the high quality of the game parts (compared to the cost of 2d/3d printing your own custom game), paying a R1000+ for a game that you know you'll like isn't that crazy.

Unfortunately I do think we here in ZA miss out on ease of access & bulk / volume pricing. Some games are simply not available because of a lack of demand. I bought my catan set in the USA back in 2006 before it was even available here.

Not really a board game but give Klask a try. Lots of fun and an easy way to kill time. Also improves your hand eye coordination

For cheap cheap? ;)
Probably. There was a boardgame shop we supported when lockdown came and bought a box for 1k that's worth more than that. And we've only played one game from it. The rest are still sealed.

And then there's a bunch of games we never play anymore. We have a huge collection of star wars destiny cards, but it's not being played at stores anymore so it's only worthwhile for playing at home

Are you on the timeless second hand group, if you are you will get rid of them in no time. Timeless will also buy most 2nd hand games off you.

I'm not sure what the rules are for the second hand group but if you need the whatsapp invite link pm me. This goes for anyone interested.

I wouldnt mind having a look at the games before you put them up.

Settlers of Catan is a good one, though I prefer it with the expansions

Depending on your group, you something mathy that is all about efficiency, try Power Grid

My group quite enjoys Libertalia, a pirate card game about looting a ship.

A personal favourite of mine is Dead of Winter, but rarely comes out as others find it complicated for some reason
Problem with Catan is new players love it old players feel annoyed to the bone.. There are much better games out there that have unique replay value. Five Tribes, Spledor, Ticket to Ride

Fair enough. I'm not a die hard Catan fan. In fact, the base game I find a little boring. But the expansions do make it a worthwhile game to get out every once in a while

I have thought about picking up ticket to ride, but it just seems awefully boring.

Catan is a sure favourite in my household, with my kiddies 6 and 8 being big fans.

I was spoilt with choice in board games so when I did play Catan I though wow this is kak. I really like a heavy Euro and Catan isn't that but I get why people like it.
