Boks snub Soweto

sox, one question, if Sowetans were such die hard fans, why not just take a taxi down to where the Boks ARE gonna be? (as opposed to brewing vintage WHINE)

I agree with that Sox... I wasn't flaming your post perse... I just want to point out that this is nothing new in SA... everyone looks after their own interests.

Some posts i read here, too many to quote, have suggested that people in Soweto don't even know what Rugby is.

Well Soweto has a history in rugby, mostly from people that moved here from the Eastern Cape. And pending verification from The Guiness World Book of Records people, also the record for the longest rugby game. Held the Friday before the Final at 7 pm till 7pm just before the Final.

And in the article it states, that people had gotten ready to welcome the Boks, including those people that sponsor the Soweto Rugby club, these preparations were made becuase SA Rugby officials had indicated they are going to make an appearance.

With all the effort that was made to show support, that is why I, and many others, feel that they were snubbed.

I think the big mistake was planning to go there and then cancelling, if they'd never planned to go there it wouldn't have been such an issue.

Maybe because its has history in SA.
Maybe because 2 Nobel Peace prize winners are from there.
Maybe because alot of important people that worked and helped Mandela are from there.
Maybe because Mandela stayed in Orlando
Maybe it will help SAs uniting just by driving past Soweto.
Theres alot more reasons.....

They should go to Soweto IMO even if there schedules jam packed!

Stop politicizing rugby. These tours are taking place in the most accessible centers. Only people that don’t care about rugby have got a problem with this and the team’s makeup. FFS they are the world champions!

If you feel so hard done by, do us a favour and stop supporting them.

:D

I think its purely a numbers game ... Limited tour time, hit the big cities. a 5 min stop in Soweto might not have been a bad idea. or even a good ol' drive-thru.

EL didnt make it, but that's cool ... not a train smash. At the end of the day, darren. whichever places were left out will be unhappy. You can't please everyone.

I agree 100% with this post. To emphasize... we whinge too much in SA. No-one is going to look after you, you have to ensure you pull your own weight.

LOL. That is brilliant.

hehe thanks man. I should patent it then :D

I came to that conclusion after spending 2 weeks constantly on the phone chasing down okes in public works to get a solution, or rather just approval on a solution for some project.

nobody ever wants to take responsibility for a decision. They all want to reap the benefits of having the final word, but when it comes to crunch time... all of a sardine "the committee" must make a decision. good luck finding them.

Don't worry already made up my mind. I'll stick with the Cheetahs, as they have put in the effort to spread the game in the province.;)

Deciding where to go, based on who sees themselves as the most worthy of fans, will be an impossible task. Every person in a green jersey will say they're the #1 fan - and they'll believe it. And who are we to disagree?

So they can't go on a " well theres our biggest fans, we'll go there " attitude, again as i said, its the numbers game...

I believe this article explains it rather well, referring to East London, but also holds the same principal for Soweto:

If you feel so strongly about the issue, why don't you find a means in which you can spread the game? Want want and expect, why is that the African way?

By that reasoning, the president and all the parliamentarians should drive through there every month.

- Maybe because its has history in SA. BWAAAHAHAHA ... Parys has history.
- Maybe because alot of important people that worked and helped Mandela are from there ... oooh, the Mandela card, i feel sorry for the people who helped Mandela who happen to live in places other than Soweto.
- Maybe because Mandela stayed in Orlando ... 2 x Mandela card penalty ... perhaps they should visit all the places that Mandela stayed in?
- Maybe it will help SAs uniting just by driving past Soweto ... BWAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA ... You are making Soweto more important than the rest of the country ... how on earth is that a uniting move?

Pfffft.

So sox only supports teams that make an effort to spread the game to black, I wonder why Indians and coloureds dont share the same retarded mentality? Its really pathetic when people only show support for a team when they win or when they are monochromatic.

Mandela Mandela is a has been! :D What about Mbeki and Zuma and Tokyo! Wait I think they will at least go through the trouble of going to the parade unlike the whining Zombies posting here on this MyADSL thread. So much for your interest but you all have a mouthful! Just :sick:ning!

Do you think he gives a fark about them? Worse is he's only bitching about the bruda's in soweto; kinda selfish considering, as mentioned, there's thousand of other black towns.

Sport quotas blah blah blah... interesting how dear mr stofile is bickering about the ratio now, but the fuss only seems to be made a bout national sports which bring in large amounts of money. There's no mention of quotas in the national skydiving, darts, billiards, bowls, composite bow shooting, etc. teams ... all of which are undertaken by school going kids for decates (aside from maybe skydiving, but we all enjoyed jumping on our matresses) ...

... very peculiar
