bonus any one ?

Got mine in June. Bonus was 64% of annual cost to company (770% of monthly) and a 12% increase.

Put half the bonus into my bond and half as a deposit for a new car :)
Wow - nicely done.

I'm curious - did you know roughly what the bonus would likely be when you joined the company? Seeing how it makes up a big portion of your total cash...

Thanks.

No, I didn't. Been here for quite a few years now (second job out of varsity) and the first few years the bonuses were nice but not fantastic, it's only been the last 2 or 3 years that they've gotten really good.

For interest, I have several data points on this for finance in the US and UK. My first bonus at my current company was 100% of annual pay. As part of the negotiation I required that the first year have a "minimum guarantee" of 85%. This min guarantee for the first year is fairly typical these days. If someone is greatly sought after they may even get two years guaranteed, but that's rare. The actual amount that is guaranteed depends entirely on how senior/wanted the hire is.

It also depends on where in the business you sit. Its going to be tough to get that much if you are back office (i.e risk, financial control, settlements, HR etc) much easier if you are actually making money for the institution.

That actually was back office. But, yes, for sure front office tends to be better - I do make quite a bit more now that I'm front office.

Still waiting to hear bonus (31 July), but got a tax refund, put it straight into my wesbank account

Well done. As a matter of interest, are you maxing your pension/provident also? I would think that should happen first before tfsa.

To be honest with you, not nearly (As I don't believe in RA's after my fallout with Liberty) !

I am putting and using my money in a clever way, not making RA firms richer !
