Here's what the Vuma fanboys don't get. Secunda is 10290 households. I said from the start that it was an anomaly on their system and they can't do it with just 300 signups. Vumatel would want at least 3430 signups and then it's still not a good investment for the density figures.

123Net wanting 500 people taking the service is not unreasonable and with a third of people taking the service that's only 1500 signups. A much better target than what any other provider wants.

The dream of getting fibre started with 123Net and one of the days it will be a reality.
Initially 123Net fibre had the best value proposition based on their basic Internet access option. That also made it possible to convince even those who don't utilize the Internet heavily to sign-up for fibre interest.

The slide change in the pricing by 123Net makes them expensive as well (No difference compared to other Service Providers).

The current situation in Secunda is not entirely a bad thing but just a reminder of what is the ideal method of getting fibre with the help of the community. RFP is the method that seems to be more favorable to the community and service providers. This allows the process to be tailor-made for the individuals needs. If the numbers are right who knows someone might decide to trench for free.

The problem with going for one service provider for the community to sign-up for FTTH is that once it is no longer viable for them, the whole community has to start afresh. That means approaching/asking members of the community to sign-up for FTTH interest again but this time for a different service provider.

RFP will allow the dedicated team tasked with driving the FTTH initiative to have a record of those that have shown their interest for FTTH.

I'm not sure but it depends on a lot of factors like congestion on the host network and equipment used. Check what changing the router did. I guess some people will just look for reasons to complain.

Of course this great comment gets ignored while we continue to call each other names. What the man said is true.

For the Lynnwood Fibre Initiative we went the RFP route. Our area is approx 10k-12k homes so it is similar to Secunda based on the information provided earlier in this thread. We received 7 proposals, two of them excellent. The winning proposal required no minimum level of interest to be shown, and on top of that they have a high quality network, very good prices, met all the community requirements (free use of network for CCTV and free internet for schools). There is no MOU signed just yet, but I don't foresee any trouble in that department.

So who's still in this and willing to take a chance? I won't blame anybody who isn't but I can't fund the whole campaign myself beyond the test run and there's no guarantee 300 will be enough as we've seen.

Please no further negativism. Everybody's said all that needs to be said including blatant misrepresentations and lies so no more of that. Anybody who wants to contribute or has some constructive comment to add is welcome.

Seems that was the case but after an initial period of no correspondence they are rolling out where they said they will. It all depends on whether we want to take a chance with them. My biggest problem has been getting the signups. Will drop you guys an email with all the details sometime. Funny till now only 3 of us driving this.

Could be. But I also see people apparently signing up but not showing. Suspect some are in areas not currently included.

Hi guys, was wondering if you guys eventually got your fibre running in your area.
Another guy from Springs here, really in need of it in the springsgate area. DFA has their lines running right around these streets, they told me they dont do residential. Maybe they though i was in a complex? Because they referred me to Digital Villages. If you guys can help in any way and point me to the right provider who can actually hook me up with fibre id really appreciate it!

Sorry for replying so late. It seems they're not expanding any more.

Saw a shade tent the other day with two letters and the word fibre just on the corner where Dalpark begins. Unfortunately couldn't stop and the next time they were gone. Does anybody know what this was about?

Which corner? Which Dalpark? We are currently rolling out in Dalpark ext 1, as well as parts of Sonneveld.

Sorry should have said, I think this is Dalpark Proper. There's an island on the corner of Hendrik Potgieter and Glamorgan if you want to check, I don't quite know how to mark on google maps.

Who are "we"?
