Broadband price comparisons

Well done on 2 things here:

-realising that 1Mbit = 1024Kbits, so 384k is actually 0.375Mb (I guess that's why dominic posted about it last night :))
-finally using Cost/Mbps/GB, which tells the true story about Telkoms bloody sky high prices.
 
Telkom ADSL Cost/Mbps/GB should be well below 20 before it can be considered on par with international standards. Good to see them moving towards the right direction though with competition on the horizon.
 
:( still too much in my standards.... I don't mind 384k but a 1GB cap :confused:

Telkom's problem. They wanna advertise it as 3GB that's what'l get put into comparisons like this. It's retarded to advertise 3GBs and give double that (not complaining here :D). Why not just advertise 6 in the first place, makes no sense to me..

They're probably not allowed to advertise it as 6GB since that's probably cheaper than they sell wholesale to the other ISPs... This "relaxed cap" is actually genius.
 
It's getting cheaper but not fast enough nor low enough. :sick:
 
What would make me REALLY HAPPY is if I could get my ADSL line on do1 and buy lots of cheap international bandwidth from Neotel as an ISP. The 1GB is frustrating everybody, sort that out and lots of people will be alot happier.

If only Telkom could implement the relaxed capping policy on Do1, it will sell like hotcakes.

Vodacom 3gig is cheaper than the Vodacom 1gig. Or have I completely lost the plot again?

Hi Garyvdh

Take the price for the service and divide it by the speed (in Mbps). Then divide that answer with the number of GB.
 
Has anyone ever got 1.8mbps on the HSDPA service? I dont think its that common(you're lucky if you get more than 700kbps), therefore the results on this table are a bit biased towards the wireless providers.
 
Using Cost/Mbps/GB as the comparison criteria is possibly fair when comparing different broadband packages but is not that meaningful when evaluating the best option to select, and can be confusing to the general public. IMHO this comparison places too much emphasis on the speed component. For the average user this comparison implies that telkom's do3 option is almost 9 times better value than the do2 option which is not true.

However it is an interesting comparison and using the same method just for the different telkom ADSL options and adjusting caps to what telkom is currently providing it reflects some strange anomalies:
