Broken SIM card? Subscribers expected to pay for replacements

Thanks you for the article rpm, I was about to get a sim swap at my CellC SP and they want R150 for it (its a controlchat). After some googling a recent Hellopeter complaint mentions that R29 is the correct fee and not R150 - I will be contacting customer care tomorrow.

My iPhone 4 broke recently, it just stopped reading sims. At first I thought maybe its some billing issue and called vodacom, the call center lady instructed me that my sim card is corrupt, I should go to a vodacom store do a sim swap, it will be free.

I went to a Vodacom shop and was told I have to pay R63, so anyways I was willing to pay but they had no stock. Luckily after that I came across another person with an iPhone and was able to test his micro sim in my phone, which proved my phone was broken.

I would be totally pissed if I had to pay for something and then it never fixed my problem for a two month old cellphone contract and phone.

Yup, Cell C PMB Midlands Mall charged me R120 to do a sim swap for an active chat 100 for a phone that was stolen - the ridiculous thing is a new "el cheapo" Samsung phone with a colour screen cost me R109????? Go Figure!

The problem in this case is that you're ALREADY on contract with them, and your SIM dies.
Then they charge you exorbitant amounts for a new SIM.

You can't just go grab a new prepaid SIM and ask them to convert it to contract for you, because then you have a new contract with a new sim and a new number.
And you can't just cancel the old contract either.
