Browser usage stats - June 2011

One third of people who visit MyBroadband are still using Internet Explorer???

We have failed my friends. :(

And I am willing to bet a fair percentage of that are still on IE6

Nothing is better than IE6, after IE6 all the browsers are bloated and full of rubbish, IE6 is simple and easy to use, works are every website and has the best privacy and security, I recommend it to all my friends and family.

Glad I am not your friend :p

I read mybb mostly whilst at work where we are forced to have only IE installed. I installed Chrome once and a week later got a call from IT asking me to uninstall :)

If your USB port is still enabled (many companies disable this too),get Chrome Portable on your USB stick and run it off there. That way it isn't technically installed on your work pc. :p Its installed on your personal USB drive.

If they still give you grief, install IE TAb into Chrome, that way IE renders inside a chrome browser. :D

It's a good feeling to be part of the MyBB community...peoplke who're passionate about tech and who use Firefox and Chrome in such high numbers...warms my heart really :-)

+1 SA tech Nerds FTW

I've been mucking about with Chrome 12 for a day now and I can't say I'm impressed. All the things I take for granted in FF I have to find a convoluted way to accomplish in Chrome like adding an extension to search Wikipedia since the omnibar can only search one engine at a time.

Even viewing bloody bookmarks requires a mouse click > sub-menu > mouse click > mouse click/or opening a new tab. I've never had to use keyboard shortcuts for such basic stuff just to keep up a decent browsing speed/not be driven to pulling my hair out. There's a difference between minimalism and just plain hiding stuff for the sake of eye candy. Hats off to you Chrome fans anyway but it's back to Firefox for me.

Nice on a Pentium3 256 MB ram and 14 inch monitor. OS windows 95
Dude you need to catch up seriously.

Dude, you need to look up sarcasm, seriously. :p

I use Opera, it's the the best by miles. Im surprised how few people use opera

Opera all the way baby!!!

I honestly think that Opera is by far the best browser. Everything is so simple to use... Opera link and turbo are just awesome and is set up in a few secs. I think the reason for the lack of opera use is the lack of support from not only website designers but also it departments at various institutions where people work and study. I'm sure plenty of people are still forced to use IE because its the only supported browser at work... and why would they care... its not "their" PC. Chrome and Firefox would be my number 2 and 3 respectively.

just curious, but why would you want an extension to search a specific site when you could use "site:[whatever Site You Want Here] [Your Search Here]"
it seems like more clicks to switch to different extensions to search particular sites.

Also curious here about why your bookmarks take so many clicks, because mine don't, and I have several in that bookmarks bar across the top of the browser, as well as many sub folders in "Other bookmarks" that really only take 2 clicks to access.

Lately been tired of bloated / animated / automatically enhanced this and that browsers. So after looking around I found "Crazy Browser".
It is only 700kb. (.7mb) at http://www.CrazyBrowser.com

I switched to CB earlier this year, and it works really well (for me) as my default browser. And am amazed how easily and well it works.

Yet another browser based on mshtml.dll
That means you're really just using Internet Explorer's trident html renderer in a different window

I want it to take me straight to Wikipedia after I search so that I don't have to go via Google every single time. The extension didn't require extra clicking though just more typing than FF but less typing than your method. To use the extension I have to type "Wikipedia" [My Search] in the omnibar and it takes me straight to Wikipedia. Doing this every single time became quite tedious because I go there quite a lot. Compare this with FF where all I do is just [My Search] > Ctrl + Down > Enter or [My Search] > Drop down arrow > Wikipedia. FF > Chrome when it comes to quick wiki searches.

That's only if you have the bookmarks tab permanently displayed, which defeats the purpose of Chrome's minimalism. It took so many clicks because I went via the wrench button. In FF it's bookmark button > bookmark. One tiny button is all you need and its in the same bar as the address and search inputs so it doesn't take an entire toolbar just for bookmarks. Oddly enough my FF looks more minimalist than Chrome (tabs + 1 bar underneath instead of tabs + 2 bars if you want quick access to bookmarks in Chrome).

I didn't even know that the bookmarks were there. It does look like a bad way of getting to the bookmarks. I guess I didn't mind the extra vertical space that the bookmarks bar takes because I've moved my task bar to the side of the screen (widescreens have more horizontal space)

I guess we've all found our own ways to work faster :)

Unless your at work or someplace where the only browser you can use is IE then I understand. But if you have your own computer and your a regular member and you like to go inter webbing a lot and your still using IE, then there is some serious glitch in the matrix.

I've recently made the switch from Firefox 5 to Chrome and I'm loving Chrome.

why not setup wiki as the default search engine then? or am i missing something?

or is opera setup in some multi search engine manner that has a I am Feeling Lucky wiki setting?
