It wont kill you, its just a lot more packed than your private hospital. And while on the topic, my Mom had some issues, which she eventually retired for, but while trying to diagnose what was wrong, we took her to a few private hospitals in Bloem, and guess where they refer us? The Neurology unit at Baragwanath of all places! And to my surprise, some of the countries best minds work there, as it is a teaching hospital.

The countries roads have done over R10,000 damage to my car in the last year alone - pot holes do wonders for low cars - and this is also on toll roads that I had to pay for traveling on.

Public schools are beyond useless - I don't think this needs justifying.

I'm a bit philosophical about these, and its a topic for another time, and will admit, things could be better. I thought you lived in a metropolitan area? CT? If you do, then your water services should be world class, according to Carte Blanche.

I like driving my car anyway. And my one pain of transport will be sorted with the Gautrain. And typically people in this bracket spend a lot on their cars, and so spend a lot of time in them. Or would you leave your Honda for a train?

True. If you think about it, income TAX actually only helps poor people. The rich don't really get that much out of it.

The rich aren't getting any TAX benefit for:

* Police, because they pay private security companies
* Roads, because they already pay tax on petrol and pay toll gates
* Education, because they send their kids to private schools
* Health, because they pay for medical aid and go to private hospitals
* Water - if the water starts degrading the rich will just start buying bottled
* Electricity - the rich have generators
* Public transport - the rich don't need it
* Etc. etc.

TAX is there to help the poor.

When I'm paying just over 30% of my gross salary for something (thats more than I have for a bond), I expect to get my money's worth - in this case I'm not.

Say you're paying R240,000pa for these services - would you be happy with the return you're getting?

BTW - I might not like taxes, but I'm not against the idea - I just don't see why I have to part with a bigger percentage of my income than someone earning less than me... and then I get less back too....

And anyone who can afford to do all those things has no place whining about the tax they pay. If you don't like it there are plenty of hardworking poorer people who will be happy to swap incomes and tax burdens.

I don't see how that argument applies - I worked my ass off to get where I am - I started off in 2001 not even fitting into a tax bracket.

BTW - I do agree that very low income earners shouldn't be taxed, but don't see why someone earning R15,000/pm and someone paying R75,000/pm should pay different tax percentages.
 
I'm a noob with this kinda things, when is this budged implemented, iow, when does it come into effect?

Deemed travel will be scrapped meaning a mandatory log book will have to be kept.
 
And Medical Aid contributions are no longer Tax Exempt.. decreased Income tax, but made more of your income Taxable.

I've actually registered to vote this year, and I hope everyone on here has done the same, I want to see these guys gone - before this country is in ruins.

Coming from a private school background, it is incorrect to say that there aren't any good public schools.

were you one of the people who defended Charles Nqgakula when he said those who complain about crime should go? Because this a very similar line of thought.

I suppose it's easy to say that once you start earning that much, life should be easy. But you forget that your lifestyle scales to the level of your pay. you might then say that well people who but R5,000 ties should not complain. But then you might find the poor say that those who buy R100 ties should not complain.

And to even suggest that people who earn a lot of money should not supplement to cover for the state's weakness is churlish at the least. And I bet if you put the poor into the same situations as the well to do, you would find the same poor have the same complaints.

whether you are black or white, rich or poor, you will find we have the same complaints as South Africans. and without knowing the circumstances of how a person came to afford to be in a position of wealth (and how they use such wealth), i find it foolish to make such a generalist statement.

Lies. I was at a very good public school. There are actually quite a few good public schools here where I live.

Not sure how old you are - but we're talking about public school's now, and not just the school's, the actual education system.

When I was in school - 10 years ago - the schools were still ok, I actually think it was just after I left when things started to go down.
